Financial Aid<br />
<strong>The</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> Financial Aid Office is to provide assistance to qualified<br />
students to obtain the financial resources they need to pay their cost <strong>of</strong><br />
attendance. Students may be eligible for the following financial aid options,<br />
according to their academic study program:<br />
Pell Grant: A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid. Pell<br />
Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a<br />
bachelor's or a pr<strong>of</strong>essional degree. <strong>The</strong> maximum Pell Grant award for the 2011-12<br />
award year (July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012) is $5,550. <strong>The</strong> amount <strong>you</strong> get, though,<br />
will depend not only on <strong>you</strong>r financial need, but also on <strong>you</strong>r costs to attend school,<br />
<strong>you</strong>r status as a full-time or part-time student, and <strong>you</strong>r plans to attend school for a<br />
full academic year or less.<br />
Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans<br />
Graduate students who meet the requirements established by the US Department <strong>of</strong><br />
Education may receive $20,500 ($8,500-Subsidized and $12,000-Unsubsidized) per<br />
academic year. Medical students may be eligible to apply for an additional $20,000. in<br />
unsubsidized loan. <strong>The</strong> interest rate is 6.80%. Undergraduate students who do not<br />
qualify for Pell Grant may consider apply for a federal loan. <strong>The</strong> Financial Aid Office<br />
provides orientation about the process to apply for student loans, and the requirement<br />
the student must meet to qualify. <strong>The</strong> student must submit a master promissory note<br />
on line, and complete an electronic entrance counseling at StudentLoan.gov.<br />
Graduate Plus Loan<br />
This is a low fixed-interest loan for graduate and pr<strong>of</strong>essional students to cover their<br />
cost <strong>of</strong> attendance. <strong>The</strong> interest rate is 7.90% (fixed) begins to accrue since the date<br />
<strong>of</strong> the first disbursement. <strong>The</strong> loan has an origination fee <strong>of</strong> 4%. <strong>The</strong> student must<br />
submit a master promissory note on line, and complete an electronic entrance<br />
counseling.<br />
<strong>The</strong> following are financial aid option for medical students only:<br />
Military Scholarship Programs<br />
Medical students interested in a military career may consider apply for one <strong>of</strong> the<br />
scholarships programs for healthcare pr<strong>of</strong>essions <strong>of</strong>fered by the US Army, the US Air<br />
Force or the National Guard. <strong>The</strong> students must contact the desired program:<br />
