Financial Aid and Scholarships

The value of a Penn State education is
considerable—as a graduate you’ll gain a
nationally recognized degree and become part
of the largest alumni association in the world.
The years you spend at Penn State are truly
an investment in your future. But with the cost
of education continuing to rise, we know it can
be stressful to figure out how you’re going to
finance that investment. That’s where the Office
of Student Aid comes in. By offering numerous
scholarships (many through the College of IST)
and financial aid packages, we can make paying
for college easier.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Through the generosity of alumni, corporate
partners, and friends, IST offers a number of
scholarships to our students. As a full-time,
incoming freshman (regardless of campus),
you’ll automatically be considered for many
scholarships through Penn State and IST simply
by completing the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA).
While you do not need to submit a copy of your
FAFSA to IST, it is highly recommended that you
file a FAFSA no later than March 1 st . Your FAFSA
is used to determine your eligibility for awards
that are based on financial need.
Additionally, you may qualify for other
scholarships—including the David Rusenko
Entrepreneur-in-Residence Scholarship,
David Rusenko Emerging Entrepreneur
Scholarship, and the Nick and Melinda Berardi
Open-Source Scholarship—by applying
specifically for them.

Approximately 4,100 first-year students receive
a University scholarship. Both Pennsylvania
and non-Pennsylvania residents receive this
consideration once they are accepted into Penn
State. Typical scholarship awards range from
$1,500 to $3,000 per academic year.
Most scholarships are awarded by mid-summer.
Occasionally, new scholarships may become
available during the semester and awards are
made when the funds are available. When an
award is made, the funds are visible on your e-Lion
account.
Only students who have been selected for an
award will receive direct notification via e-mail and
a letter sent to the home address of the recipient.
FINANCIAL AID
Approximately 75 percent of
undergraduate students at Penn State
receive some form of financial aid.
To be considered for aid, you must
complete the FAFSA, which is
available starting January 1 st at
www.fafsa.ed.gov.
