Program Description<br />

The Computer Technology program offers two degree options: Associate<br />

in Science or the Associate in Applied Science. The Associate in Science<br />

degree is designed to articulate with the final two years of undergraduate<br />

study at institutions offering the bac calaureate award while the Associate<br />

in Applied Science degree has as its focus, preparation for entry into<br />

the workforce. Both pro grams are designed to provide individuals with<br />

knowledge of com puting in the PC environment while developing specific<br />

diagnostic, repair, installation, network <strong>and</strong> programming skills. Graduates<br />

will be expected to exhibit an in-depth underst<strong>and</strong>ing of PCs <strong>and</strong> demonstrate<br />

the ability to install software <strong>and</strong> hardware, provide maintenance,<br />

troubleshoot, evaluate PCs, train new users, <strong>and</strong> work with networks. In<br />

addition, because this work is service ori ented, graduates will be expected<br />

to demonstrate positive cus tomer relation skills.<br />

This program prepares students for industry certifications such as A+,<br />

NET+, MCP, <strong>and</strong> MCSE.<br />

Students may enroll on a full or part-time basis <strong>and</strong> may take courses in<br />

the day, evening, or both, depending upon availability. Students enrolled<br />

for full-time course work usually need two aca demic years to complete the<br />

associate degree. Part-time students may need several years to complete<br />

the program requirements.<br />

Career Opportunities<br />

The program is designed to develop work skills for the computer technology<br />

<strong>and</strong> related computer fields. Possible jobs include: PC Computer<br />

Repair Technicians, PC Software Resource Personnel, Network Administrator,<br />

PC Computer Trainers, <strong>and</strong> PC/Network Sales Personnel.<br />

Note: Students must earn a grade of C or better in College Writing<br />

(ENG 101), College Algebra (MAT 122), Interpersonal Communica tion<br />

(COM 101), <strong>and</strong> all CPT core courses in order to meet the degree<br />

requirements of this program.<br />
