positive skin test should submit evidence of a yearly evaluation<br />
by a health care provider.<br />
Varicella (Chicken Pox)<br />
An offi cial record of an immune titer must be provided.<br />
In addition, other yearly tests <strong>and</strong>/or immunizations may be required.<br />
4. Submit other medical or educational documentation as requested<br />
by the Nursing Department.<br />
5. Complete the application process by January 31st of the anticipated<br />
enrollment year.<br />
It is the applicant’s responsibility to submit the required documentation.<br />
Once an applicant’s file is deemed complete, the applicant is<br />
invited to an informal meeting with the Department Chairperson for<br />
the purpose of reviewing the program <strong>and</strong> select ing the appropriate<br />
course of study. Upon admission to the pro gram, the student is assigned<br />
a nursing faculty advisor.<br />
Admissions <strong>and</strong> Registration Condition<br />
Due to compliance with the st<strong>and</strong>ards of the National League for Nursing<br />
Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) <strong>and</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> State Board of Nursing,<br />
prospective nursing students should be aware that admission <strong>and</strong> program<br />
changes may occur.<br />
Non-<strong>Academic</strong> Requirements<br />
for the Nursing Major<br />
1. Be certifi ed in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR - provider level)<br />
prior to the start of the first nursing course. This certification must be<br />
current through out the program.<br />
2. Purchase the college professional liability insurance prior to the<br />
start of the fi rst nursing course.<br />
3. All nursing students (both full <strong>and</strong> part-time) must carry person al<br />
health insurance.<br />
4. Nursing majors must purchase uniforms before entry into the nursing<br />
courses.<br />
5. Clinical learning experiences take place in a variety of settings <strong>and</strong><br />
geographic locations. Nursing majors must therefore provide their<br />
own transportation to <strong>and</strong> from the clinical settings.<br />
6. Nursing majors must follow the proper course sequence <strong>and</strong><br />
should note that a minimum grade of C (with a satisfactory clinical<br />
grade) in each nursing course is required in order to progress from<br />
one nursing course to another. Students must adhere to the nurs ing<br />
program attendance requirements. Failure to meet the atten dance<br />
requirement may result in dismissal from the program. Completion<br />
of all Nursing program courses with a grade of C or better <strong>and</strong> a<br />
minimum GPA of 2.00 is required to graduate.<br />
High school prerequisites for admission into this program: Algebra I,<br />
Chemistry with labora tory, Biology with laboratory, completed application<br />
process <strong>and</strong> results of the Nurse Entrance Test (NET) by January 31st<br />
each year for competitive review process<br />
Associate in Science Degree Requirements<br />
Arts <strong>and</strong> Sciences (General Education) courses supportive to the<br />
Nursing major must be taken prior to, or concurrent with nursing<br />
courses as outlined in the curriculum design. Nurs ing courses must<br />
be taken in the sequence listed. Students must achieve a minimum<br />
grade of C in all nursing (NUR) courses <strong>and</strong> a satisfactory clinical<br />
grade in each nurs ing course in order to progress from one nursing<br />
course to another.<br />
