FINANCIAL AID AND DISSERTATION ENROLLMENT There are three sections of dissertation: PSYC 798, 799, and 800. Each section is considered to be half-time with respect to financial aid eligibility. Students who are enrolled in continuous dissertation as PSYC 0000 are registered with the university for 0 credits. This experience s not eligible for halftime status. GRADUATE STUDENT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND The Graduate Student Professional Development Fund provides resources to students who are presenting at conferences or who have extraordinary expenses associated with research projects. 28
Part IV DEPARTMENT POLICIES The Graduate Psychology Department has developed several policies designed to protect students, faculty, and the College from miscommunication in areas that are important to the success of the Psy.D. program. DEPARTMENT POLICY ON STUDENT-FACULTY RELATIONSHIPS The Graduate Psychology Department endorses a policy of relationship between student and teacher, and student and field site supervisor, in which all contacts are limited to either the school setting, clinical training setting, or to conferences related to the student's professional development. Extracurricular activities outside the scope of these settings are not encouraged. Limiting professional involvements to learning activities associated with the student's immediate educational objectives helps to protect the neutrality of the evaluation process and safeguards against the development of dual relationships, role confusion, and other potentially compromised interactions. DEPARTMENT POLICY ON ACCRUING POSTDOCTORAL HOURS Students cannot identify themselves as postdoctoral until they complete the last section of predoctoral internship, receive a final internship grade, and are approved for graduation. Please note the following examples of how this policy is enacted for students who are completing internship in summer and are scheduled to earn their degrees in August. Internship Completed at the end of Summer I: Students who complete predoctoral internship at the end of summer session I (and are not longer on site), and who have received their final internship grade, and who are approved by the university to receive their degrees in August, may begin to accrue postdoctoral hours upon receipt of their final grade. At that point, they are no longer earning academic credits toward their degree. Internship Completed at the end of Summer II: Students who complete predoctoral internship at the end of summer session II may begin to accrue postdoctoral hours when all of the above criteria are met. Should a student complete an internship at a time other than Summer I or Summer II, the same policy holds. That is, the student must receive a final grade, be off site, and be approved by the university to graduate at the next degree granting period (January or May) as a pre-requisite to accruing postdoctoral hours. DEPARTMENT POLICY ON PAID PSYCHOLOGY WORK OUTSIDE THE PSY.D. PROGRAM The Department communicates as needed with the State Psychology Board about matters that arise in the course of training that are related directly to graduate level education and to the Department's interpretation of the Psychology Licensing Act and its regulations. The Department requires its students to complete a form that describes any work done outside of their program of study that involves paid psychology employment (Appendix VI- Outside Employment Form). This form is mailed or distributed in class and returned to the department for storage. 29
