The cycle4health scheme is a cycling programme<br />

targeting adults who are at risk of or are affected by<br />

conditions such as heart disease and diabetes and<br />

would like to take part in cycling to increase their<br />

fitness and improve their health.<br />

Sessions will take place in:<br />

Roberts Park, Saltaire, Bradford<br />

Wibsey Park Gardens, Wibsey, Bradford<br />

John Charles Centre for Sport, Middleton Grove, Leeds<br />

Bikes &<br />

Helmets<br />

to use.


cycle4health<br />

cycle4health sessions create an opportunity for you to join in one of the most<br />

enjoyable physical activities, in a relaxed and fun group environment without risk of<br />

over exertion or strains to your muscles and joints.<br />

cycle4health is funded by Pfizer UK Foundation, CTC (National Cycling<br />

Charity) and West Yorkshire go:cycling Project. The tutors used<br />

will all be National Standard qualified and the majority will be<br />

Register of Exercise Professional Level (REPs) 3 qualified also,<br />

these qualifications enable the tutor to support you whether<br />

you are new to cycling or want to gain confidence in cycling<br />

and ensure you are exercising safely.<br />

Each week you and the tutor will monitor the sessions<br />

and discuss how you are progressing. You will be provided<br />

with a cycle4health pack to help record your achievements<br />

and set your goals. On your first visit you will be asked to<br />

<strong>com</strong>plete a health screening questionnaire to ensure the<br />

programme is appropriate for your needs. There will also be<br />

other monitoring to <strong>com</strong>plete along with the tutor to help<br />

measure your achievements and goals.<br />

cycle4health is designed to increase physical activity participation, reduce the risk<br />

of or support the management of heart disease and diabetes and improve general<br />

well being.<br />

Where, When, What and Who...<br />

The sessions will take place in:<br />

Roberts Park, Saltaire, Bradford, BD17<br />

Wibsey Park Gardens, Wibsey, Bradford, BD6<br />

John Charles Centre for Sport, Middleton Grove, Leeds, LS11 5DJ<br />

Sessions will run weekly.<br />

The sessions are free and you can contact us directly,<br />

<strong>com</strong>e along with your <strong>com</strong>munity organisation or be referred<br />

by your health professional.<br />

Sessions are:<br />

• Run in a safe traffic free environment<br />

• Supervised by qualified tutors<br />

• Aimed at adults who have not<br />

ridden a bike before<br />

• Open to <strong>com</strong>plete adult beginners<br />

and adults returning to cycling<br />

• Equipped with bikes & helmets for you<br />

to use and cycle safety will be discussed<br />

Sessions will aim to:<br />

• Build your confidence on a bike<br />

• Provide you with the skills to cycle safely<br />

• Offer opportunities to further your<br />

cycling experience<br />

• Help you meet new cycling friends<br />

• Increase your physical activity participation<br />

• Get you cycling on a more regular basis
