A dynamic, self motivated individual is required to teach on a range of
programmes across the School of Allied Health Sciences. Principally this will be to
students of Biomedical Science, Medical Sciences and Clinical Physiology. You will
be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of these subjects
through teaching, research and related professional academic activity.
The Biomedical/Medical Sciences programmes include modular teaching in the
areas of clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology, immunology,
histopathology/cytopathology, molecular genetics, haematology and tyransfusion
science. You should have a PhD in a relevant Bioscience discipline and be
committed to the educational development of bioscience students and healthcare
professionals. Interest/experience in physiology and/or medical microbiology
would be an advantage, as would experience of eLearning and use of eMedia to
enhance teaching and learning.

Overall Purpose of the Role
To work in the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences leading or assisting with teaching, assessment and
programme development. The post holder would also be expected to contribute to research and other
scholarly work within the School of Allied Health Sciences and the Faculty.
Job Fact and Figures
The Faculty of Health & Life Sciences is a large faculty responsible for teaching, research and commercial
activities in many different disciplines of health and social care. It is comprised of the schools of Nursing &
Midwifery, Applied Social Sciences, Allied Health Sciences and Leicester School of Pharmacy.
The School of Allied Health Sciences teaches foundation degree, Batchelors and Masters degrees and
research degrees (MPhil/PhDs) in laboratory/clinic-based biosciences such as Biomedical and Medical
Science and therapeutic sciences such as Audiology and Speech and language therapy
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To lecture in the broad subject area of biosciences which would be relevant to the work of the
school and the wider Faculty. This would primarily be on our undergraduate and postgraduate
Biomedical Science and Medical Sciences programmes but would also include our programmes in
Clinical Physiology and Healthcare Science.
2. To act as an academic and personal tutor
3. To organise and supervise practical classes in the areas outlined above
4. To generate and supervise suitable projects for final year students
5. To become involved in course development
6. To become involved in appropriate administration, including representation on Faculty and School
committees

7. To fully participate in the assessment of students
8. To participate in research, scholarly and commercial activities according to interest and experience
and where appropriate be entered into the Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessment
exercise.
9. To participate in the marketing of our courses and recruitment/admissions activity
10. To carry out any other duties as prescribed by the Head of School
