A dynamic, self motivated individual is required to teach on a range <strong>of</strong><br />
programmes across the <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Allied Health Sciences. Principally this will be to<br />
students <strong>of</strong> Biomedical Science, Medical Sciences and Clinical Physiology. You will<br />
be expected to contribute to the development and delivery <strong>of</strong> these subjects<br />
through teaching, research and related pr<strong>of</strong>essional academic activity.<br />
The Biomedical/Medical Sciences programmes include modular teaching in the<br />
areas <strong>of</strong> clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology, immunology,<br />
histopathology/cytopathology, molecular genetics, haematology and tyransfusion<br />
science. You should have a PhD in a relevant Bioscience discipline and be<br />
committed to the educational development <strong>of</strong> bioscience students and healthcare<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. Interest/experience in physiology and/or medical microbiology<br />
would be an advantage, as would experience <strong>of</strong> eLearning and use <strong>of</strong> eMedia to<br />
enhance teaching and learning.<br />

Overall Purpose <strong>of</strong> the Role<br />
To work in the Faculty <strong>of</strong> Health & Life Sciences leading or assisting with teaching, assessment and<br />
programme development. The post holder would also be expected to contribute to research and other<br />
scholarly work within the <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Allied Health Sciences and the Faculty.<br />
Job Fact and Figures<br />
The Faculty <strong>of</strong> Health & Life Sciences is a large faculty responsible for teaching, research and commercial<br />
activities in many different disciplines <strong>of</strong> health and social care. It is comprised <strong>of</strong> the schools <strong>of</strong> Nursing &<br />
Midwifery, Applied Social Sciences, Allied Health Sciences and Leicester <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy.<br />
The <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Allied Health Sciences teaches foundation degree, Batchelors and Masters degrees and<br />
research degrees (MPhil/PhDs) in laboratory/clinic-based biosciences such as Biomedical and Medical<br />
Science and therapeutic sciences such as Audiology and Speech and language therapy<br />
Main Duties and Responsibilities<br />
1. To lecture in the broad subject area <strong>of</strong> biosciences which would be relevant to the work <strong>of</strong> the<br />
school and the wider Faculty. This would primarily be on our undergraduate and postgraduate<br />
Biomedical Science and Medical Sciences programmes but would also include our programmes in<br />
Clinical Physiology and Healthcare Science.<br />
2. To act as an academic and personal tutor<br />
3. To organise and supervise practical classes in the areas outlined above<br />
4. To generate and supervise suitable projects for final year students<br />
5. To become involved in course development<br />
6. To become involved in appropriate administration, including representation on Faculty and <strong>School</strong><br />
committees
7. To fully participate in the assessment <strong>of</strong> students<br />
8. To participate in research, scholarly and commercial activities according to interest and experience<br />
and where appropriate be entered into the Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessment<br />
exercise.<br />
9. To participate in the marketing <strong>of</strong> our courses and recruitment/admissions activity<br />
10. To carry out any other duties as prescribed by the Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />
