Far North CP
Challenge
FORESTERS will take a swing at
raising funds for the League with a
golf day.
The Hoo Hoo Club, a fraternal order
of forest industry workers dedicated
to raising cash for charities, will host
the day at the Cairns Golf Club on
June 22.
As money raised will support the
Far North CP Challenge, the Hoo
Hoo Club would like as many
four-player teams as possible.
The Far North CP Challenge is
a sponsored endurance race
where four Far North Queensland
police officers will raise funds and
awareness of cerebral palsy.
Tasks have deliberately been made
tough to highlight the challenges
faced by people with cerebral
palsy.
The project also aims to make the
community aware of the sheer grit
and determination possessed by
people with cerebral palsy and
related disabilities.
The four police officers will cycle,
kayak, hike and run nearly 400km
to raise $100,000 for the Cerebral
Palsy League.

Disability Action Week

DISABILITY touches the lives
of most Queenslanders in some
way - through the experiences we
have with friends and family, in the
school, at the workplace and in the
community.
One in five Queenslanders has a
disability of some kind.
The key objectives of Disability
Action Week are to encourage
positive attitudes towards people
with a disability, improve access
and make our community a better
place for everyone.
THE Cerebral Palsy League’s
Western Garden Service gained
a new Ford Ranger Ute, with
assistance from Member for
Yeerongpilly, Simon Finn.
On May 14, the League thanked
Mr Finn for his help in applying
for $23,000 in funds through the
Gambling Community Benefit
Fund.
The vehicle will be used to
transport workers, tools and
materials to and from jobs,
including lawn mowing, pruning,
planting and rubbish removal.
“We’re very grateful to Simon
Finn and others for helping us
successfully obtain these funds,”

The launch will be held at Scarness
Park, Esplanade, Hervey Bay on
July 15 from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
Disability Action Week Awards
will be hosted from 12:00pm to
2:00pm on July 17 at the Brisbane
Convention and Exhibition Centre,
South Brisbane.

Gardening service grows “wheels”
Mr John Brogan, Manager of
Adept Garden Service said.
“The new ute will be a great asset
for our crew, which includes two
permanent crew leaders as well as
up to eight supported employees
who have a disability.”
Adept Garden Service is an
employment initiative of the
Cerebral Palsy League and
services Brisbane’s South and
South Western suburbs.

Good luck Robert!
ROBERT Oakman competed in
the 2007 Queensland Invitational
Boccia Championships in March/
April at Brendale.
In an impressive display, Robert
made the grand finals where he
placed second in the state!
Robert has now qualified to
represent Queensland at the
Boccia National Championships
in Melbourne, which will take
place from 3-7 July.
