STAGE 1
• This stage of the research was a quantitative study, to
test the assumptions of the current literature that relates
to the determination of mobile phone contamination
levels.
• This has been completed and analysis of the data has
been published*.
• Convenience sampling of students’ mobile phones was
carried out between March and November 2009.
• Devices used by two different cohorts of students were
sampled, one group (nine devices) on six occasions,
the other (seven devices) three times, with a period of
use between each sampling activity.
• Ethical approval was obtained from SREP prior to
commencement.
