<strong>FOR</strong> <strong>NOMINATION</strong> TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS<br />

The UTS Board of Directors is accepting recommendations for new directors and<br />

volunteers to serve on the Board of Directors or participate on Board Working<br />

Committees.<br />

For anyone interested in volunteering their time and expertise, vacancies may<br />

open up sometime in the near future, or later in the year.<br />

The UTS Board is committed to attracting Directors who will share their<br />

enthusiasm for the school along with specific expertise that can help UTS move<br />

forward; such expertise would include general business experience, risk<br />

management, fundraising, communications and marketing, and finance. The<br />

Board is strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially<br />

welcomes nominations from visible minority group members and women.<br />

GUIDELINES <strong>FOR</strong> EFFECTIVE DIRECTORS OF UTS<br />

The responsibilities of effective directors of UTS are to:<br />

• ensure that the UTS mission is clear, appropriate and relevant as times<br />

change and that the school’s resources are appropriately allocated to<br />

accomplish the mission<br />

• determine that the School's curriculum, programs and activities support<br />

the School's mission and achieve both short-term goals and long-term<br />

purpose.<br />

• exercise fiduciary responsibility to obtain and appropriately use the<br />

resources required to carry out UTS’ mission and sustain it.<br />

To fulfill these responsibilities and to ensure the long-term success of UTS,<br />

directors must work together to:<br />

• Cultivate a deep understanding of what UTS is doing.<br />

• Act as ambassadors for UTS, explaining its purpose and needs to the<br />

community.<br />

• Select, establish conditions of employment for, work with and evaluate<br />

the Principal.<br />

• Make sure that UTS fulfills its ethical, legal and regulatory obligations.<br />

• Attend board meetings fully prepared to discuss, ask questions and<br />

make decisions related to UTS’ purpose, goals, and activities.<br />

• Support and monitor UTS’ fundraising and use of funds.<br />

• Evaluate the composition and performance of the board and recruit<br />

future board leadership.
