For reaching CeSViMa
Although the taxi driver should know, some
keywords that could help him to have a clear idea
about where the campus is located are "Boadilla
del Monte", "urbanizacion Monteprincipe" or
"Ciudad de la Imagen".
The campus can be seen from the M40, one of the
main highways surrounding Madrid. In any case,
you can show the map on this page to the driver.

Where we are
The oficial postal address (in Spanish) is:
CeSViMa — Parque Científico y Tecnológico UPM
Campus Montegancedo
28223, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid (España)
The coordinates for GPS are:
40°24'15.65''N
03°50'4.75''O
The best way to reach the campus is by car/taxi: There is direct
access from M-40 at junctions 36 (northbound) or 38 (southbound). The
coordinates for a GPS device are 40°24'15.65''N 03°50'4.75''O.
There is also public transportation to the campus. Two routes (591 and
865) end in the campus (the second one has a bus stop close to the
CeSViMa building. Don’t forget to tell the driver, he will not stop unless
asked to do so). Three bus lines stop very close and one metro Line is in
the neighborhood.

Madrid is the capital and largest city of Spain and, with
almost 5 million people, one of the most populous of
Europe.
The most ancient recorded name of the city is Magerit
(the name of the CeSViMa supercomputer), it
comes from the name of a fortress built on the
Manzanares River in the 9th century A.D. This name
means "place of abundant water"
Madrid downtown (“Madrid de los Austrias”) is the most
touristic zone but the offer can satify all tastes: arts,
culture, gastronomy, nightlife, shoping…

Our advice is to reserve a hotel room in downtown Madrid and take a
taxi to CeSViMa in the morning. It should be about 20-30 minutes for
15-20 Km (depending on the route). The cost should be around 45€.
The map includes some interesting points of the downtown. It includes
some hotels and typical places.
If you have never been in Madrid before, one of the “must do”
things is “tapear”: go out to have some “tapas” (small plates of
food with a drink). There are lots of places, but the “Mercado de San
Miguel”, close to Plaza Mayor is a good starting point. It is an old
glass building that was a vegetables market in its origin, but now
houses many small businesses dedicated to tapas. Other classics in
the zone include the “Museo del jamón” (Ham museum), where you
can taste the typical Spanish ham, and all the places located in the
surroundings of Plaza de Santa Ana, but there are so many more
around that is difficult to go wrong.

In late 2004, the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid
(UPM) set up the Centro de Supercompu- tación y
Visualización de Madrid, CeSViMa. The center is
currently located in the Scientific and Technological
Park of Montegancedo of the UPM. CeSViMa provides
tools for high performance computing and advanced
interactive visualization, providing computer support to
national and international research projects within four
basic areas: Astronomy, Space and Earth Sciences,
Biomedicine and Health Sciences, Chemistry and
Materials and Physics and Engineering.
CeSViMa hosts the supercomputer Magerit and
advanced visualization and storage systems. Named
after the ancient name of Madrid, Magerit is one of the
most powerful computers in Spain. Currently it
comprises a 3920 IBM Power 7 cores cluster,
distributed in 245 nodes linked with a infiniband
network, with a peak speed of 103 TFlops.
Currently, CeSViMa is integrated in the Spanish
Supercomputing Network (RES), included in the
directory of Infrastructures and Laboratories Network of
the Community of Madrid and is a member of the e-
Ciencia Spanish Network.
