The Fifth Sunday of Easter - St. Mary Parish
The Fifth Sunday of Easter April 20, 2008 From the desk of Fr. George... Greetings Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary’s, This week has been a significant event in the Catholic Church as our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI arrived in Washington DC and was greeted by the President. If you had the opportunity to watch any of the event coverage during the week, it has been awesome. The Holy Father’s addresses have been bold, confident, compassionate and direct. Whereas I write this article mid week, I look forward to hearing more in the days to come and pray for his safety and health as he continues to shepherd the flock. Jesus’ words in the Gospel today are also bold and encouraging. He tells us that in His Father’s house there are many dwelling places and that He goes to prepare a place for us. Of course, Thomas and Philip are the pivots of the Gospel when they further engage Jesus. Our belief in the words and works of Jesus will lead us to our dwelling place. But even more so, our embrace of those words and works in our daily actions give glory and honor to God as well. We are indeed precious in the sight of God. Let us be worthy of that love by what we say and do. It is also with great hope, that Spring has finally arrived. Next Saturday is First Communion Day. Please pray for these youngest members of our faith community as they receive Jesus in Holy Communion. It will be a busy week for the children, teachers, staff and families as final preparations are put into place. But remember, it is Jesus that is the center of this day! Fr. Catholic HEART Workcamp On June 15th six teens from St. Mary’s and two adults will leave for a week in Mishawaka, Indiana. Our mission is twofold. First we will share the love of Jesus and serve the neglected, brokenhearted and marginalized by beautifying homes for the elderly, disabled and those who cannot afford repairs or working in day care facilities or working in homeless shelters or food distribution centers. Second, we will be empowered to live as disciples of Christ through serving others. Please keep our team in your prayers. Contact Katie at 243-8221 or firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
