general invitation information invitation
Dear friends,
This year is unique for the European Federation for the Science
and Technology of Lipids, we have a jubilee, the 10 th Euro Fed
Lipid Congress. The place to be this year is Cracow, where the
great opportunity to discuss what we – lipids’ people – should
advice to Europe and to the world, will arise. We will discuss what
we know, what we do not know and what we need to know about
lipids in the future. Every section should prepare a short statement
about current knowledge and recommendations for the future:
what should be done, what problems should be solved, which
goals should be achieved. We should also discuss important lipid
problems for Europeans, such as fats and oils labelling (saturated,
trans fatty acids, omega-3), bad fat taxes, safety of fats and oils
from GMO plants, a European system of safety examination of
fried fats & oils, as well as the future of biodiesel, biotechnology of
lipids, fully refined vs. cold pressed/virgin oils, functional fats and
oils and related material, fish oil and feed for fish farming among
many others. This is why we need your voice, your opinion and
your share in our final statements. Join us and be part of it.
The Congress title is: “From Science and Technology to Health”.
There is no doubt that lipids are of great influence to our health.
Probably, they are the most important among all food nutrients.
Moreover, the influence of lipids can be extremely good but also
extremely bad. Lipid Science and Technology should relate to
health issues and this is reflected in all the main Congress topics.
Discussion is needed to make our raw materials, processing,
biotechnology more healthy and safer for the natural environment.
Welcome to Cracow, a city wrapped in legend, where time flows
differently, and where every moment becomes a moment of history.
For centuries Cracow was the capital of Poland, the seat of
kings, drawing great scholars and artists from around the whole
world. It is their talents and imagination we must thank for the
city’s rich legacy of unique historical relics, which reflect the most
important trends in European culture.
The renaissance Royal Castle at Wawel, the gothic St Mary’s
Basilica, the historical trade pavilions of the Cloth Hall, the former
separate Jewish city of Kazimierz, and even the Nowa Huta
district, absorbed by Krakow together with its socialist-realist, industrial
architecture, are all places which make a visit to Cracow
extremely worthwhile.
The location of the 10 th Euro Fed Lipid Congress is unique: Cracow.
The City’s magic consists of the unique mix of architecture,
art and historical places. Every year Cracow is visited by over 7
million tourists. Our host, Jagiellonian University – is one of the
oldest universities around the world (established in 1364). Additionally
we have prepared for you great trips to interesting and beautiful
places around Cracow. The most important is a visit to the
Nazi Camp Auschwitz Birkenau, a place which has to be visited
by every human being. Another trip is to one of the most beautiful
places in the world: the Wieliczka salt mine. We are delighted to invite
you to this beautiful city and look forward to welcoming you to
the 10 th Euro Fed Lipid Congress from 23-26 September. Lipids,
Cracow and we are waiting for you.
Chairman of the
Scientific Committee
Although the city no longer plays such an important administrative
role, for many people, thanks to its rich history, Cracow nevertheless
represents a synthesis of all things Polish, connecting
tradition with modernity. In the special atmosphere of the beautiful
and mysterious streets of the Old Town and Kazimierz you will
find everything you need to allow you to escape from everyday
life. Galleries full of exhibitions,
cafes, pubs
and restaurants: all of
this is an integral part
of any visit to Cracow.
And all this is merely a
modest part of what
we can offer travellers
seeking exciting destinations
on the world
Better process.
More profit.
Make your day easier by adopting Purifine ® PLC.
Transform your seed oil production
with Purifine ® PLC by DSM. What
does this mean for you? Purifine ®
PLC increases yield of degummed
and refined seed oils and is
developed specifically to process
high phosphorus oils.
This while the oil treated with PLC
can be easily refined to exceed
standard quality specifications.
Getting just a little more oil from
each of your seeds adds up to more
value, less waste. The result is
industry-leading economics and
considerably improved operating
margins.
congress Dinner
Franciscan Church, Franciszkanska 2
see map for details
(Cited from www.cracow-life.com)
The Franciscan Order arrived in Cracow in 1237. A monastery
was founded on this site, and in 1260 work began on a church.
Whilst there is plenty of interesting history behind this church, it
was a disaster that gave rise to its greatest legacy. In 1850 a fire
tore its way through the Old Town, causing major damage to a
host of buildings. The Franciscan Church was amongst several
that were gutted, and rebuilding had to begin from scratch. This
was done in the Gothic style, to mirror the former design. Amongst
the most striking features of the church are the stained glass windows.
Bold and visionary, they are a world away from the staid
traditions of the medieval era. Most famous is the huge ‚Let it Be‘,
which stands above the Western entrance.
For centuries the Franciscans held the special right of pardon over
those under the death sentence. However, in contrast with the
radically innovative art of the interior, today the church is notable
for its conservatism. The Dominican, on the other hand, which lies
just across the road, has a liberal reputation and is popular with
students.
The experience of the Franciscan church is naturally at its most
spellbinding during Mass, when the aroma of incense hangs in the
guest and social programme
air, and the lights do full justice to the brilliance of Wyspianski’s designs.
The chief chorister, a sterling member of the fairer sex, has
a highly uplifting voice that makes a very powerful impact. There
are also regular concerts here – and what a fine venue – for this is
certainly a church in a million.
