PresumPTive Drug Testing Kits 

The testing of suspected drugs by most crime 

laboratories can take several weeks. Because of 

this delay, and with the cooperation of Prosecuting 

Attorneys, many police agencies have now turned 

to presumptive drug testing kits. If the results of 

the presumptive test indicate an illegal substance, 

criminal charges may be filed. The substance 

can then be sent to the crime laboratory for gas 

chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) 

confirmation. 

Drug Testing Pouch Kits consist of a heavy-duty, 

flexible plastic pouch which contains prefilled, 

hermetically sealed glass ampoules held together 

by a plastic harness. The glass ampoules contain 

a premeasured volume of the required chemicals 

to perform the test. 


In order to test an unknown substance, simply 

slide off the pouch clip and, using the loading 

device, place a small amount of the unknown 

substance in the pouch. Break the glass ampoules 

(from left to right). Agitate the solution in the 

pouch and watch for the color change(s). Then 

compare the color(s) of the solution to the color(s) 

printed on each pouch. 

In addition to the NIK® and ODV brands we also 

offer the MMC brand of presumptive drug testing 

kits which utilize a one ampoule design. The MMC 

test kits contain no dangerous liquids and do not 

require the use of an acid neutralizer. 

To test an unknown substance using a MMC test 

kit, simply snap off the top of the hermetically 

sealed, pre-scored ampoule and use either 

the supplied plastic cap or spatula to load the 

substance into the ampoule. Once the substance 

has been loaded, place the plastic cap over the 

open end of the ampoule and gently shake, or 

tap the ampoule to accelerate the color change. 

Compare the color change to the color printed on 

each ampoule.

Test 901 - General Screening

Mayer’s Reagent — General screening test for controlled 

substances. Designed as the starting point for sequential 

testing. If you have a totally unknown substance (tablet, 

capsule, powder, or chunk), the Mayer’s Reagent will 

direct you toward your next field test. 

Test 902 - Confirming Test - 

Opiates/Amphetamines 


Marquis Reagent — Presumptive test for MDMA 

(Ecstasy), Amphetamine type compounds (Amphetamines 

and Methamphetamine), and for Opium Alkaloids (Heroin 

and Morphine). To differentiate between Amphetamines 

and Methamphetamine, use the Methamphetamine 

Reagent (Test 923). To confirm all Heroin (White, Brown 

or Black Tar), use the Mecke’s Reagent (Test 924). 

Test 904B - Cocaine/Crack 

(Reorder No. ODV-904B) 

Cocaine Salts & Base Reagent — Presumptive test 

designed to identify Cocaine HC1, Freebase, or Crack. 

The pouch configuration must develop three positive 

reactions: (1) Blue presence, (2) Pink solution, (3) Pink 

over Blue layering. The tube configuration will develop 

a Blue solution after breakage of each ampoule, with a 

sticky Blue residue adhering to the side of the tube. 

Test 905 - Barbiturates 


Dille-Koppanyi Reagent — Presumptive test designed to 

identify a Barbiturate in either a tablet or capsule form. 

To test tablets, reduce the substance to a powder form. 

For capsules, open the capsule and remove a small 

amount of the powder. Place a small amount in the field 

test. A Lavender color will develop in the presence of 

Barbiturates. 

Test 906 - Methadone/Amphetamines 


Mandelin Reagent — Presumptive test designed to 

identify Methadone. Place a small amount of the 

substance into the pouch. Upon breaking and agitating 

the pouch, a Dark Blue will develop in the presence of 

Methadone. In the past, agencies have used this test to 

confirm the presence of Amphetamine-type compounds. 

Please use the Methamphetamine Reagent (Test 923) 

instead. 

Test 907 - LSD 


Ehrlich’s Modified Reagent — Presumptive test designed 

to identify Lysergic Acid Diethylamide or LSD. Due to the 

dangerous nature of LSD, take every precaution not to 

touch or absorb this substance into your system. Upon 

breakage of the second ampoule, a Purple color will 

develop and, after breakage and agitation of the third 

ampoule (pouch only), the color will deepen. We 

recommend nitrile gloves for handling LSD. 

Test 908 - Marijuana 


Duquenois-Levine Reagent (Pouch) — Presumptive test 

designed to identify the presence of THC in Marijuana, 

Hashish, or Hash Oil. Break the first ampoule and agitate 

for 60 seconds. Upon breakage of the second ampoule, 

a Blue/Violet color will develop. Break the third ampoule 

and agitate. A layering will occur. The lower layer MUST 

be Purple for a positive test. 

Test 909 - Marijuana Red Response 


KN Reagent (Fast Blue B Salts) — Presumptive test 

designed to identify the presence of THC in Marijuana, 

Hashish, or Hash Oil. It is also designed to react with the 

green leaf material of fresh Marijuana. Upon breakage 

of the second ampoule, a layering will occur and the 

lower layer must be a Tomato Red color for a positive 

test.

Test 914 - PCP/Methaqualone 


PCP/Methaqualone Reagent — Presumptive test 

designed to identify the presence of Phencyclidine (PCP) 

and Methaqualone. Upon breakage and agitation of the 

first ampoule, a Pink color will develop. After breakage 

and agitation of the second ampoule, a Brilliant Blue will 

develop in the presence of PCP or Methaqualone. We 

recommend the use of nitrile gloves for handling all PCP. 

Test 922 - Opiates/Oxycodone 


Opiates Reagent — Presumptive test designed to identify 

the presence of all forms of Heroin (White, Brown, and 

Black Tar). To differentiate between Heroin and Codeine, 

Heroin will appear as a Purple color following the 

breakage and agitation of the second ampoule; Codeine 

will develop a Green color. Oxycodone will develop a 

Yellow color upon breakage and agitation of the second 

ampoule. 

Test 923 - Methamphetamine/MDMA 


Sodium Nitroprusside Reagent — Presumptive test 

designed to identify the presence of Methamphetamine 

and MDMA (Ecstasy). Upon breakage of all the ampoules 

and agitation, a Dark Blue color confirms the presence 

of a secondary amine (Methamphetamine or Ecstasy). 

You can differentiate these substances by using the 

Marquis Reagent (Test 902) in conjunction with the 

Sodium Nitroprusside Reagent (Test 923). 

Test 924 - Heroin 


Mecke’s Modified Reagent — Presumptive test designed 

to identify the presence of all forms of Heroin (White, 

Brown, and Black Tar). Break and agitate the first 

ampoule for 30 seconds. A Green color will slowly 

develop as you agitate the test after breakage of the 

second ampoule. 

Test 925 - Diazepam/Valium ® 


Valium®/Diazepam Reagent — Presumptive test designed 

to identify the presence of Valium®, Diazepam, Rohypnol® 

(Ruffies), and Ketamine. After breakage and agitation of 

the two ampoules, a Pale Lavender color will develop in 

the presence of Valium®, Diazepam, and Rohypnol®. A 

Darker Lavender color will develop after the second 

ampoule in the presence of Ketamine. 

Test 926 - Talwin ® /Pentazocine 


Talwin®/Pentazocine Reagent — Presumptive test 

designed to identify the presence of Pentazocine. 

Pentazocine is the chemical name for Talwin®. Upon 

breakage of the second ampoule, a Bright Blue will 

appear instantly in the presence of Pentazocine. 

Test 927 - Ephedrine 


Ephedrine Reagent — Presumptive test designed to 

identify the presence of Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine. 

After breakage and agitation of the two ampoules, a Blue/ 

Violet color will develop in the presence of Ephedrine or 

Pseudoephedrine. 

Test 928 - GHB (Gamma Hydroxybutyrate) 


Presumptive test designed to identify the presence of 

GHB in liquids. Open pouch, then using the pipettes 

provided, add two drops of the liquid to the pouch and 

break the ampoule. If GHB is present, a Green color will 

develop. 

Test 929 - Psilocybin Reagent 


Psilocybin Reagent - Presumptive test designed to 

identify the presence of Psilocybin Mushrooms. A Purple 

color will develop after the second ampoule is broken.

This convenient, safe spray was developed for spraying areas where you suspect cocaine 

residue may be found. The Cocaine ID Sprayer allows you to pump a fine mist of Cocaine 

ID Spray which, when it comes in contact with cocaine residue, turns blue.

The Pro and Scout Light Sources are a series of battery powered Blue Light Sources specifically developed for the 

detection of drug residue (trace amounts) of the five most commonly used, illegal street drugs. 

In the past, drug residue detection by means of fluorescence was limited to large city and state crime laboratories using 

forensic light sources costing thousands of dollars. However, with the introduction of LED (light emitting diodes) 

technology, the cost of determining the presence of illegal substances by means of fluorescence has dropped significantly. 

The Pro and Scout Light Sources now provide smaller agencies with the ability to locate drug residue at a crime scene, 

in a vehicle, or even on a suspect’s hands or clothing. 

Both the Pro and Scout models emit an LED-generated long wave blue light in the 450 nm range which will cause drug 

residue to fluoresce in a known specific color (see below). Both models are extremely easy-to-use: simply put on the

A) As with most presumptive tests, these drug 

detection lights can give false-positive readings 

and, therefore, as with any presumptive test, 

drug residue should be collected and forwarded 

to your crime laboratory for confirmation.

of drug residue. Always use presumptive drug
