Parks and Recreation Department

The City of San Luis Obispo

Parks and Recreation Mission Statement

With integrity and enthusiasm, we are committed to providing quality parks, open space, recreation,

cultural and educational services essential to the enhancement and promotion

of personal well-being and a sense of community .

Greetings from the Director

A diverse listing of Parks and Recreation activities, programs, events and classes are

found in this Winter/Spring 2012 Activity Guide . The City of San Luis Obispo Parks and

Recreation Department is committed to providing our community with quality recreational

programming . With that in mind this Activity Guide contains a wealth of classes and

events geared toward all ages and levels of fitness . We are sure that you will be able to find

something that suits your needs and interests and we hope that you or a member of your

family can partake in at least one (and maybe more) of these terrific opportunities .

Research has shown that that the success of one’s commitment to wellness is directly

proportionate to the convenience of the activity(s) . One of the favorite unstructured way

to increase activity levels in our Department is of course the quick walk somewhere . Parks

like Meadow, Islay and French are great for neighborhood walks . If open space is more your

speed we have new trails at Froom Ranch in the Irish Hills and Laguna Lake is particularly

beautiful this time of year .

As you can see from this Activity Guide the City of San Luis Obispo’s Parks and Recreation

Department provides abundant opportunities through our programs, facilities, parks, trails

and open space to serve the community’s recreational needs . I hope that you find the time

this winter and spring to enjoy your usual activities and maybe try some new hidden gems .
