From action to indulgence for the whole family in the winter

paradise of Zillertal

Enjoy the breathtaking panorama of the Zillertal and Tux Alps and culinary delights,

surrounded by the finest powder snow. A winter holiday in Zillertal offers a diverse

programme for young and old alike - on and off the pistes. Together with parents or

with trained ski instructions, 668 kilometres of the best prepared pistes are waiting to

be discovered. Anyone who is still too little for the pistes will receive the best of care

in special daycare centres and guest kindergartens. Boredom is certainly not

something our little guests will have to deal with. Ideal for the weekend: the Zillertal

SuperSkipass is now available for a minimum of two days!

New: 10 km long Karabfahrt descent in Hochfügen

With an incredible network of 172 state-of-the-art cableways, 668 kilometres of the best

prepared pistes leave no wish unfulfilled. The spectrum of divine descents ranges from wide

pistes with comfortable slopes to demanding routes that challenge true talents. 94.25 km of

black (difficult), 398 km of red (medium) and 175.75 km of blue (easy) pistes can be easily

explored with the Zillertal SuperSkipass. In Hochfügen, the new 10 km long Karabfahrt

descent is waiting to be discovered beginning on 3 December!

New: Order your Zillertal SuperSkipass in advance in the web shop

The option of enjoying all of the Zillertal ski areas and using the valley-wide ski bus system

free of charge with only one ticket is not only extremely popular among families. That’s why

the Zillertal SuperSkipass is now also available for two-day periods at all valley stations

of the Zillertal cableways! You can also order the Zillertal SuperSkipass conveniently in

the ski ticket web shop at www.zillertal.at. It will then be sent directly to your home or

credited to your existing ski pass - making standing in line at the counter a thing of the past!

The Hintertux Glacier - Austria’s only year-round ski area - invites you to enjoy skiing

pleasure in the summer as well as the winter, with a guaranteed snow making system for

435.9 kilometres of pistes in the Zillertal ski area to provide white pistes as far as the eye

can see. The quality of the total of six ski areas has received attention from more sources

than our loyal holiday guests. Numerous awards from leading ski area testers have put

Zillertal up there with the best. The list of distinctions is long and ranges from innovation

prizes, awards for top ski resort and seals of quality for pistes to the highest scores in the

categories of family friendliness, friendliness of the team as well as awards for the cableways

and events.

You have to learn to ski - but can have fun doing so!

It is never too early or too late to strap on the “boards”. A total of 23 ski schools in Zillertal

teach their charges the right way to conduct a snowplough turn with a great deal of patience.

Whether it’s the first snowplough turn in the snow, special courses for freeriders or the best

tips for snowboarding, beginners and pros of all ages not only learn the right technique from

experienced ski instructors, the instruction also takes the fear of steeper descents out of

freshly trained skiers and furthers fascination with the legend of the mountain. In separate

beginners’ areas, with corresponding lifts and magic carpets, the first steps in the snow

become a joy. Little skiers are safely accompanied in their first steps on skis and snowboards

in ski kindergartens and ski schools. The “ABC of skiing” is taught in a playful way here.

Our littlest guests receive the best of care in the guest kindergartens. Trained minders take

care of their guests with imaginative programmes, while the parents discover the wide world

of the pistes. Those who want to avoid the hassle of transporting their alpine skis with them

on their well-deserved holiday can easily rent the newest models in some 70 outlets.

Natural products for fresh energy

Culinary delights made from regional, natural products provide strength for mountain life in

Zillertal. Delicious dishes are conjured up with a great deal of passion, both on the mountain

and in the valley. Zillertal specialities are on the menu, just as are new creations of the

modern, light cuisine. Creations are based on the natural products of Zillertal, such as

cheese made of pure pasture milk, sausage and bacon from the village butcher and, in some

cases, meat from their own farms. Come directly from the pistes to the Zillertal gourmet

temple or head for the rustic chalets - the right taste is offered for everyone here.

Family fun off the slopes

The Zillertal also has much to offer families off the slopes. On the Hintertux Glacier, the

sparkling world of the Nature Ice Palace promises to proverbially put the skiers on ice and

allow them to explore this naturally occurring crevasse on foot. A new branch of the

crevasse has open for viewing since this summer. It even received the 2009 “innovation

prize for science and culture” from Skiareatest.com! Anyone looking to give it their all on ice

will find the best conditions at the Mayrhofen artificial ice rink. Skaters can do their rounds

quickly and athletically or gently and cautiously from December through March over 1,500

square metres. Things also move in circles with the Arena Skyliner in the Zillertal Arena.

Fly above the beautiful snowy landscape on a total of 4 routes with a length of up to 738

metres and a maximum speed of 50 km/h. Fun, action and an unforgettable bird’s eye view

are all guaranteed. Guided tours are offered several times a day (duration: approx. 1.5

hours). Warm up afterwards in the Erlebnistherme (thermal bath) in Fügen. While those

seeking rest and relaxation enjoy the generous sauna and wellness facilities, our smallest

guests enjoy the longest slide in western Austria. This winter, the Erlebnistherme will be

expanded by a 120 m² salt water pool (water temperature of 36 degrees Celsius and 3-5%

salt content).

Investments and improvements for an optimal winter experienceZillertal is by no means

resting on its various offers. Our offers are continuously kept up-to-date through constant

investments and improvement measures. In the winter season 2010/2011 alone, more than

EUR 30 million were invested in modernising the cableways. Our guests will be able to

delight in a great number of innovations this year as well. On the Hintertux Glacier, the

double chairlift “Gefrorene Wand” (“Frozen Wall”) will be replaced by the new 10-seater

monocable gondola Gefrorene Wand. Completion: November 2011. In the Zillertal 3000

ski area, the two-seater Katzenmoos will be replaced with a six-seater chair lift with weather

hood. In Mayrhofen, the Horbergbahn valley station will be renovated and will offer even

more comfort while providing a quick ascent to the Penken ski area. The Rosenalmbahn

valley station will be renovated in the Zillertal Arena Zell-Gerlos ski area. Indoor counters,

an integrated ski bus terminal, escalator access, a sports shop, a ski rental and depot facility

and a bistro/restaurant will provide even more comfort and service. At the Königsleiten

summit lift, the state-of-the-art 8-seater monocable gondola with heated seats will

replace the existing 4-seater chair lift and immediately attract attention with its safety

features. The first cable car in Austria with orange panels will let the mountains shine,

even during poor visibility.

Arrival:

Zillertal has its own autobahn connection at the valley entrance and is only a few kilometres

away from three international airports: Innsbruck (50 km), Munich (170 km) and Salzburg

(150 km). Four Seasons Travel (www.tirol-taxi.at) provides a shuttle service as a simple and

comfortable way to transfer directly to Zillertal. With Deutsche Bahn, holiday guests can now

travel quickly and comfortably to Mayrhofen from all train stations in Germany. The “Europa-

Spezial” ticket is available starting at EUR 39.00 (2nd class, one-way, while stocks last).

Shorter distances are even less expensive, e.g. Munich - Mayrhofen from just EUR 19.00.
