The quest to develop energy-efficient homes has created a new issue. Because today’s building
codes require tightly sealed energy-efficient homes that restrict airflow, harmful pollutants

is a unique air purification system developed by Bioclimatic Air Systems . over 25 years ago. It is the
only air purification system designed for residential applications that meets ASHRAE 62. Standard 62
is the engineering standard used by mechanical engineers to meet design specifications that provide
acceptable indoor air quality for commercial buildings such as schools, offices, labs and hospitals.

What is Bi-Polar Ionization?
A recent study by the U.S.D.A. found that ionizing a room led to 52% less
dust in the air, and 95% less bacteria in the air. Many of the pollutants
found in the air reside on floating dust particles. The U.S.D.A. also
performed another study to test the effectiveness of ionization at
removing airborne Salmonella Enteritidis. The test results were dramatic,
thus prompting the following statement from the U.S.D.A: “These results
indicate that air ionization can have significant impact on the
airborne microbial load and at least a portion of this effect is through direct
killing of the organisms.”
In short, bi-polar ionization is created when an alternating voltage source (AC) is applied to a
special ion tube. When the voltage is applied to the tube, like electricity is applied to a light bulb,
an ionization field is produced approximately 24” in circumference around the tube, just as light
is produced from a light bulb. The ionization cannot be seen, but it’s presence will result in a
“mountain air” freshness. Positive and negative ions occur naturally. They are nature’s way of
controlling mold, bacteria, viruses and odors. Lower grade systems provide only negative ions.
