What MPLS brings
Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) enables Enterprises and
Service Providers to build next-generation intelligent networks that
deliver a wide variety of advanced, value-added services over a
single infrastructure
Subscribers with differing access links can be aggregated on an
MPLS edge without changing their current environments, as MPLS
is independent of access technologies. (Leased Line, Frame
Relay, ATM, Ethernet etc.)
Integration of MPLS application components, including Layer 3
VPNs, Layer 2 VPNs, Traffic Engineering, QoS, GMPLS, and IPV6
enable the development of highly efficient, scalable, and secure
networks that guarantee Service Level Agreements.
Logical Design
IGP Routing
OSPF is the IGP in YKB MPLS Core Network as it is widely
used, scalable, stable and secure IGP protocol that supports
Traffic Engineering (TE) and fast convergence requirements of
this project
Carrier Detection
interface Serial3/3/0
BGP Routing (VPNv4)
BGP (with route reflectors) is used for MPLS/VPN routing table
propagation (VPNv4 routes)
MPLS core
YKB MPLS Core Network uses LDP as a label distribution
protocol with LDP targeted Hello
CEF will be globally enabled on any Router.
MPLS MTU to be increased to 9216 bytes on each mpls running
LDP is enabled on TEs
IGX
Trunks
IGX traffic is decided to be carried port-to-port. That means all
traffic from site IGX is carried to one port at central router. There
is one-to-one port matching.
IGX ATM trunks will be configured as Virtual Trunking using a
single VPI to carry all connections.
Clocking
Voice applications need synchronization of the endpoints. To
achieve this we synchronized all IGXs to Turkish telecom. The
high-level design is to synchronize all the PABX switches to the
Turkish telecom ISDN network and the IGX’s to the PABX
switches.
QoS
Low Latency Queuing is used on all WAN links
“Medium important traffic” and “Default Traffic” traffic classes are
combined in YKB MPLS Core Network because they both have the
same IP Precedence values
BGP Community Usage
BGP next hop is used to forward VPN traffic. Only one primary
Data Center 7600 router is selected for the next hop
Traffic Engineering
Most of the traffic flows to Data Center location. The YKB MPLS
Core Network is in mesh physical topology and using all the
physical links available to a POP is a must for YKB.
Therefore, TE tunnels are used for each physical link to Data
Center destination. This method hides the physical topology from
upper layer protocols and routing protocols see that there are as
many tunnels to Data Center as the number of physical links
Cisco IOS MPLS Autoroute Announce installs the routes
announced by the tail-end router and its downstream routers into
the routing table (forwarding table) of the head-end router as
directly reachable through the tunnel. This is the main method to
attract traffic over the link-protected tunnels within the YKB MPLS
Core Network.
Migration Procedure
Only one WAN link is moved from IGX to 7600
All the functionalities are tested with this link. If
something is wrong, it is easy at this stage to return
back.
If everything is okay, then all other WAN links are
moved to 7600
Tests are done in this state
