Killeavy handed tough championship draws
The 2013 championship draws were made on Wednesday night resulting in some very tough assignments for Killeavy’s footballers
and hurlers. The first draw made was for the Junior Hurling championship which saw Killeavy drawn in a semi-final against St.
Malachy’s, Portadown. We might just fancy our chances of getting through this to reach the final against Middletown 2nds/Sean
Tracy’s or Camlough Craobh Rua. This will certainly be the target and the Junior Hurling might just be our most likely chance of a
county title next year.
The Junior championship is the most keenly contested of all the grades with 21 teams vying for the title. Killeavy 2nds have at least
avoided the preliminary round but have been handed a tough 1 st round game against the winners of Derrynoose or Clady.
Most interest was probably on the Senior championship with thirteen clubs entering the race to lift the Gerry Arthurs Cup. This is
our first year back in the big time following on from our Intermediate triumph last year and our reward was to be drawn out against
Maghery in one of five preliminary round ties. Maghery won the league title last year and have long been regarded as one of the
top teams in the county. With players of the calibre of Stefan Forker, they will pose a serious obstacle for our championship
ambitions. However, should we manage to overcome the challenge of the men from the lough shore then we will face a much more
neighbourly challenge in the quarter-final against Carrickcruppen. Well as they say – nothing worthwhile is ever easy.
Last Hurrah for 2012
Earlier this week, the club organised this photograph showing all our captains and vice-captains and the silverware they collected
last year. The photograph will shortly occupy a spot in the social club as a final memento of the success we enjoyed in 2012
