Safety aspects<br />
The compressors are delivered generally in accordance<br />
with the API�11P standard (skid�packaged<br />
compressors) and are designed and certified in<br />
accordance with relevant classificati<strong>on</strong> society<br />
rules.<br />
Maintenance<br />
The gas compressor system needs an annual<br />
overhaul. The overhaul can be performed by the<br />
same engineers who do the maintenance <strong>on</strong> the<br />
main engines. It requires no special skills apart<br />
from what <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> comm<strong>on</strong> knowledge for an engineer.<br />
External systems<br />
External safety systems should include a gas<br />
analyser for checking the hydrocarb<strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>tent of<br />
the air, inside the compressor room and fire warning<br />
and protecti<strong>on</strong> systems.<br />
Safety devices � Internal systems<br />
The compressors are protected by a series of<br />
Pressure High, Pressure Low, Temperature High,<br />
Vibrati<strong>on</strong> High, Liquid Level High/Low,<br />
Compressor RPM High/Low and Oil Low Flow<br />
trips, which will automatically shut down the compressor<br />
if fault c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s are detected by the local<br />
c<strong>on</strong>trol system.<br />
Pressure safety valves vented to a safe area guard<br />
against unc<strong>on</strong>trolled over�pressure of the fuel gas<br />
supply system.<br />
Inert gas system<br />
After running in the gas mode, the gas system <strong>on</strong><br />
the engine should be emptied of gas by purging<br />
the gas system with inert gas (N 2 , CO 2 ),<br />

The core unit <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> a GE�Flotech high�pressure fuel<br />
gas compressor package, which c<strong>on</strong>s<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ts of an<br />
electric motor directly coupled to a four�stage gas<br />
compressor, model F604, complete with relevant<br />
c<strong>on</strong>trol, cooling, filtering and lubricating systems.<br />
The power c<strong>on</strong>sumpti<strong>on</strong> of the compressor <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
max. 3,580 kW.<br />
The compressor <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> balanced therefore giving little<br />
or no vibrati<strong>on</strong>s and <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> therefore ideal for off shore<br />
installati<strong>on</strong>s.<br />
Main Drive System<br />
The main drive system c<strong>on</strong>s<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ts of an electric motor,<br />
flywheel and a torsi<strong>on</strong>ally rigid, flexible drive<br />
coupling. The drive speed <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>trolled by an<br />
electr<strong>on</strong>ic variable speed drive (VSD).<br />
Cooling System<br />
The cooling system cools the compressed gas<br />
after each compressor stage and stabil<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>es the<br />
temperature of the recycle gas. The compressor<br />
frame lubricating oil <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> air�cooled. The cooling<br />
system <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> a closed circuit, with the cooling water<br />
circulated by an electrically driven pump through<br />
a radiator and a gas to water heat exchanger.<br />
Inlet Filtrati<strong>on</strong><br />
Inlet filtrati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> included to remove particulate<br />
matter and entrained liquids from the gas stream.<br />
Filtrati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> d<strong>on</strong>e in two stages compr<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ing a<br />
pre�filter followed by a coalescing filter. The inlet<br />
pre�filter includes a vane�pack, to remove free<br />
liquids, and a particle filter. The coalescing filter<br />
precipitates and removes aerosols and liquids not<br />
already removed by the inlet pre�filter.<br />
