29/12 12 September 2012 To the Somerville House Community BRISBANE OPEN HOUSE Last Thursday, Somerville House had the privilege of hosting Her Excellency, the Governor of Queensland, Ms Penelope Wensley AC, to officially launch Brisbane Open House (BOH). Her Excellency is Patron of BOH, an event which will showcase fifty-one of Brisbane's historical landmarks from 10.00am to 3.00pm on Saturday 06 October 2012. Other guests at the launch included BOH Ambassador, Mr Darren Lockyer, BOH President, Queensland Government Architect and Somerville House past parent, Mr Malcolm Middleton, members of the National Trust and a variety of business leaders from across Brisbane. Somerville House will be opening the doors of three of its most historic buildings for Brisbane Open House - Cumbooquepa, the Chambers, and the Chapel. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore some of the School's history in areas of the School that are normally closed off to the community while in use by our corporate staff and boarding students. If you would like to give some time on the last Saturday of the September vacation to become a volunteer to show the public through these magnificent buildings, please email Elizabeth Macpherson at dev-office@somerville.qld.edu.au. STAFF NEWS Ms Susanne Gilmour, Dean of Students, will retire from education and Somerville House at the end of this term to move into private practice. Ms Gilmour has served the School community with integrity, wisdom and insight over the past six years as a member of the Executive team, providing great care, compassion, guidance and support for students and staff, and input into the strategic development of the School. We congratulate Ms Gilmour on her successful career in education and wish her well as she embarks upon this new endeavour in her professional life. It gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of our new Director, Communication and Admissions, Mrs Kim Douglas.
