The Community & <strong>School</strong><br />
<strong>Sussex</strong> <strong>County</strong> is the northernmost county in New Jersey, where this rural area has a population of<br />
159, 909 according to the 2008 census. Of which, 94.6% consists of Caucasian Americans, 6.0% Asian<br />
American, and 2.1% African American. <strong>Sussex</strong> Tech is a vocational/technical high school with an<br />
enrollment of 635. Students are able to major in one of the 22 technical or vocational areas. <strong>Sussex</strong><br />
Tech is accredited by the New Jersey Department of Education and the Middle States Association for<br />
Colleges and <strong>School</strong>s.<br />
The Curriculum<br />
Class periods run forty minutes, five days a week, 180 days a year. Students may be in technical<br />
majors for two to four periods daily, depending on their academic program requirements or postsecondary<br />
plans.<br />

<strong>School</strong> <strong>Profile</strong><br />
Honor Roll criteria is an 87.5 average, and for high honor roll an average of 92.<br />
Unweighted GPA based on a 4.0 scale is recorded on transcripts. Weighted GPA is calculated solely<br />
for the purpose of computing class rank and is not reported. In order to be ranked students must<br />
have attended <strong>Sussex</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>School</strong> for one whole school year.<br />
Tech Prep/College Credit Bank Programs<br />
SCCC has partnered with us to develop a program focused on Business Management and Business<br />
Administration. This program allows students to earn tuition free college credits while they are still<br />
in high school. Students can seamlessly transfer to SCCC after graduation and complete their<br />
associate’s degree in 1 1/2 years after their high school graduation. Students can receive up to 15<br />
credits for their high school performance in their technical programs at partner colleges such as, but<br />
not limited to, Penn College of Technology, UMDNJ, <strong>Sussex</strong> Community College, SUNY/Delhi,<br />
Philadelphia Art Institute, Johnson and Wales, Culinary Institute of America, Berkeley College, and<br />
NJIT.<br />
Concurrent Program<br />
Students may attain dual credit for college courses taught by <strong>Sussex</strong> Tech instructors who have been<br />
accepted as adjunct professors at <strong>Sussex</strong> Community College. Students must pass the Accuplacer<br />
Basic Skills Test or earn a 550 on the verbal section of the PSAT to gain placement into these classes.<br />
They must also earn a ‘B’ average overall to earn entrance into the program. The cost of tuition per<br />
course is $125. Courses offered include: English Composition I and II, General Psychology, Intro. to<br />
Sociology, American Literature I and II, U.S. History 2, Statistics and Economics.<br />
Cooperative Industrial/ Office Education<br />
Upper class students have an opportunity to be employed for part of the school day in their specific<br />
technical major. Work experience is supervised and students continue to receive instruction from<br />
their technical instructors. Cooperative work experience is noted on the transcript with the<br />
designation of CIE/COE preceding the technical major.<br />
