Westminster Academy GCSE Students Fast Track
their way to A Level
Westminster Academy is celebrating a year of exceptional achievement, culminating with the
announcement of GCSE results this morning. Today almost 70% of Westminster Academy
students achieved at least 5 A*-C grades including English and maths. In addition, the Academy is
proud that its students not only achieved top grades at GCSE but also fast tracked their way to
gain the highest marks ever in their A Level entries one year early.
Outstanding results were achieved by a number of students.
Yunus Julwadi achieved 4 As and 6 Bs in his GCSEs as well as gaining a B grade in his AS Level
English Language. Yunus will be continuing at Westminster Academy to embark on the prestigious
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in September. Yunus said “I’m really chuffed
about my results! Chuffed is the word of the day!”
Amina Moussa achieved 2 A*, 6 As and 2 Bs in her GCSEs as well as gaining a B grade in her AS
Level English Language. Amina said “It’s surreal; I’m still taking it in! I’d like to get into medicine so
I now have high hopes for the future.” Amina will also be continuing at Westminster Academy to
study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in September.
Westminster Academy is sponsored by the Dangoor family, whose dedicated support of the
aspirational vision of the school extends to the offer of three Dangoor Challenge scholarships worth
£15,000 each for the first three sixth form students to gain a place at Oxford, Cambridge or
Imperial College in 2015.
Smita Bora, Principal, said: “Today’s GCSE results reward the hard work and commitment of
students, staff, parents, carers, governors, sponsors and our business and community partners in a
remarkable year for the Academy, during which Westminster Academy was rated Outstanding by
Ofsted and achieved top IB results, yet again exceeding the world average.”
This year, the Academy has won three national awards. Deputy Prime Minister Mr Nick Clegg
presented the Academy with the National Pupil Premium Award, Lord Adonis awarded the
Academy the IAA’s title of most transformed Academy in the UK and the Academy was selected as
Secondary School of the Year by the TES.”
