Description: SD10E-QAM

SD10E-QAM (SD Encoder - QAM) accepts & auto-detects up to ten (10) inputs in digital SD-SDI and analog

NTSC baseband Audio/Video format, digitizes & MPEG-2 encodes each into a standard-definition stream (SD –

480i), and multiplexes the resulting ten (10) streams into one (1) output in QAM format in the 5.75-864 MHz

range (CATV channels T7-T14 and 2-135).

Two ancillary output interfaces are available:

• One (1) in ASI format

• One (1) in DVI format - for real-time and simultaneous monitoring of all the ten multiplexed streams

[Example 1] Assign all 10 inputs to ASI #1

Loop-back the ASI #1 to the encoder’s internal QAM modulator. Utilizing the QAM 256 mode (38.8 Mb/sec), each stream on QAM

output #1 will be encoded at ~ 3.8 Mb/sec.

[Example 2] Assign inputs 1,2,7,8 to ASI #1, &

Assign inputs 3,4,5,6,9 & 10 to ASI #2

Loop-back the ASI #1 to the encoder’s internal QAM modulator – inputs 1,2,7, & 8 each is encoded on QAM output #1 at ~ 9.5 Mb/sec.

Use an external QAM modulator for ASI #2 – inputs 3,4, 5, 6,9, & 10 each is encoded on QAM output # 2 at ~ 6.5 Mb/sec.

Note: Encoding bitrate for each input can also be adjusted to any specific value through the GUI-based configuration menu.

Features – Emergency Alert System (EAS) Interface

Input #10 is user-configurable as

“regular” input or as “EAS” input.

When Input #10 is configured as “regular”:

Input #10 is multiplexed with the other 9 inputs

and appears on its assigned virtual channel.

When Input #10 is configured as “EAS”:

The unit automatically detects any input on the video port of #10, and replaces the content of inputs #1

through #9 with what is present on #10.

If no video is detected on input #10, then inputs #1 through #9 will automatically revert back to the

original content.

Monitoring & Control - Configuration > Mode & Video

The “Configuration > Mode” screen

allows user to select one of the 4

possible modes.

The “Configuration > Video” screen allows

user to configure, for each of the 10 inputs,

the following parameters:

[1] GOP (Group Of Pictures) specifies the order in which

intra-frames & and inter-frames are arranged. Each MPEG-coded

video stream consists of successive GOPs. From the MPEG

pictures contained in it the visible frames are generated. A GOP

can contain the following picture types:

I-picture or I-frame (intra coded picture)

P-picture or P-frame (predictive coded picture)

B-picture or B-frame (bidirectionally predictive coded picture)
