Edited By :

Noble Mick Stockwell and

his Lady Erica.

Greetings Nobles and Ladies of El

Kahir Shrine

I would like to wish everyone

with a birthday in October a Happy

Birthday. Here it is fall already.

Halloween will be coming and then

the holidays. Where has this year

gone? So far it has been a very busy

year and it looks like it will stay that

way.

I want to remind all of the Nobility

we need to have a successful Long

Gun Raffle. I have sent out the following

Email on this.

“Nobles,

I can’t stress enough the importance

of the gun raffle this

year. By selling all 5000 tickets we

would generate an approximate income

of $60,000! At this time there

are only about 2750 tickets in the

field. Compare that to last year

when we had 4000 tickets out and

with hopes we could sell out for the

very first time. Needless to say, the

indicators are not pointing that favorably

this year at all. We need to do

better … and can do better.

The general financial condition of

the Temple hinges directly on the

outcome of this very important raffle.

If you need more tickets, get a

hold of Julia and we’ll get some

mailed out to you right away.

If all the nobles would by 1 ticket it

would put us over the top.

Thank you,

Floyd Sauter

El Kahir

Potentate”

I would like to thank all of the

Kruzers and their ladies for all of the

hard work on their car show. It was a

great success. There were 118 entries.

I would like to thank Vintage

Iron for coming over from Tangier

with 5 cars. Blackhawk Street Machines

had 10 cars, Vintage auto had

2 cars and there were several other

non shrine car clubs. I also saw a lot

of nice looking late model cars. I

would like to thank the Directors

Staff for the use of the popcorn truck

and Michael Zinser for bringing it up

and for making the popcorn.

I would like to thank Grandmaster

Bryce Hildreth for the wonderful

time at his Grand lodge Dinner. Let's

keep getting Masons brought in so

we can get more Shriners.

I would like to remind everyone

about the fall ceremonial on November

16, 2013. Please get your applications

in for your new members.

Also please let us know who is coming

from the Cold Sands we had.

At the October meeting I am going

to have a presentation for Julia.

Please come early. The presentation

will be at 7 pm before the stated

meeting in the dining area.

The November meeting will have

a guest speaker and the ladies are

invited to attend. Don Engel will be

speaking about the Minneapolis Hospital.

This will be at 7 pm in the

meeting room.

Thank you and God Bless the

Shrine and Mason’s.

Let’s have fun, and help our kids

Thank you,

Floyd A. Sauter, Jr.

Nobles and Ladies,

We had a great time in Branson at

CSSA summer session. El Kahir was

well represented by many units and

clubs. We also had many of our units

and clubs that participated in various

competitions. Some trophies were

brought back, but everyone enjoyed

the hospitality, a lot of entertainment,

fun and fellowship. Two of our Nobles,

Bob Walke and Dennis Hanna

both members of NEIA Shrine Club,

won first place in the golf tournament.

They made a team with my

counterpart from Za Ga Zig Shrine

Temple, Chief Rabban Jim Hunt and

P.P. Jim Osterquest. I am not sure

who carried who, but from talking to

all of them they had a great time. I

was well supervised by our Chaplin,

Noble Tom Boeckmann even after

ditching him at Wal-Mart Tom was

still praying for me. All in all I think

everyone had a great time. A special

thanks again to all the Mobile Nobles

for coming out to haul the Divan

through the parade in Branson and

various times throughout the year.

It's not that we don't need the exercise

we just really appreciate not

walking that far.

I am planning events, putting together

a calendar for the year, appointing

positions and working on a

budget right now. If you have suggestions

for events we may want to

try please let me know soon. Thanks

to Noble Rod Heiden we are also

trying to put together a small pocket

directory together. We have sent out

some letters to promote new ideas

and gather some information. We

need your feed back to help make

2014 a success. My goal is to have

all plans for next year set up by the

end of December. In order for the

Temple to grow and survive we will

implement some needed changes that

I will be introducing in the next few

months. My goal has been and always

will be to proceed thru the Divan

doing whatever necessary to

complete my term on the Divan with

El Kahir in a better place than before

I was elected to the Divan.

We have elections ahead and we

need to fill those spots with quality

people. So if you haven't started

thinking yet, the time is quickly approaching.

Feel free to contact me on my cell

phone at 319-241-2233 or by email at

Eiler2014@gmail.com.

Fraternally,

Chief Rabban,

Todd Eiler

Greetings Nobles and Ladies:

Where has our summer gone? I

sure like these morning, low temperatures

much better. What a busy

month since we last wrote. My Lady

Carol and I traveled to CSSA in

Branson, Mo., and had a great time in

spite of the high heat there. We saw

competitions and especially one of

the Keystone Kops units as I do still

want to start a club or unit like this

for parades, but need members.

It was our turn to put on the Ladies

without Partners luncheon at El Kahir

this year and this went well thanks to

much help from the Divan and other

Nobles and ladies. Total attendance

was 45 with 28 of those being guests.

On September 3 all of the Divan

were in Eagle Grove to help create 12

new Nobles in a cold sands there at

the Masonic Lodge. Congratulations

to these new 12 and my thanks to all

the Nobles and Clubs that were responsible

for bringing them in. We

look forward to seeing them at our

regular ceremonial in November.

The Vintage Auto Unit set up a

booth at the National Cattle Congress

to distribute literature, promote our

hospitals and of course sell a raffle

ticket or two. Thanks Vintage Auto,

we need to be in front of the public

more like this. Let’s not forget the

Kruzers Car Show coming up on

September 22 in Cedar Falls. Let’s

hope for good weather and a great

turn out.

Your annual Sportsmen’s Raffle is

coming up fast so if you haven’t purchased

a ticket or sold some tickets

for this event, please do so soon! It is

our largest and best fund-raising

event and needs everyone’s support.

Remember also that our elections for

the Temple are fast approaching and

we need good Nobles to step up.

And lastly, lets keep Lady Mary

Donegan and Illustrious Sir Roger

Donegan, Recorder PP in our prayers

as she continues her treatments at the

University of Iowa Hospitals.

Fraternally,

Doug Strike

that time.

Come join the fun !

Bring a dish , fellowship, and some good

Our Raffle was successful. We

made money on our Circus, Parades

and helping at the Hancock County

Fair. The results of the Draft Horse

show are not in yet.

! Dillon Bauer and Chuck Hrubes

attended the Grand Masterʼs One Day

Class at Sioux City on August 17th.

Then on Sept. 3rd they and Brian

Truex, Mitch Horstman and Tom

Mckinnley were given the Cold

Sands at Eagle Grove.

President Don Schleusner, Vice

President Rod Halfpop and Treasurer

Dallas Bauer announced that they

will run for the same offices for 2014.

We need someone for the Secretaryʼs

position.

President Schleusner discussed a

list of items the Twin Cites Shrine

Hospital has need of. Question is

should we buy the items and deliver

NEXT MEETINGS

them or just give the Hospital the

money to buy what they need? Noble

Don Sapp made a motion to investigate

purchasing items for the Shrine

Hospital. Noble Mark Hullinger seconded.

After discussion the motion

Carried.

Chief Rabban Todd Eiler informed

us that the Imperial Session will be in

Minneapolis next year from July 6 to

People living in the heartland of

our nation and Canada are very generous

and kind to children who receive

loving care and treatment at

Shrine Hospitals for Children. As of

the end of July, gifts received at Tampa

from donors in the seven states

and three provinces of the SHC-TC

region, has it included among the top

three or four hospitals for gifts.

These gifts make possible world

class care in a loving and caring environment.

This is apparent from a

number of comments made by patients’

families over from 8/27/2013

to 9/9/2013. Following are several.

“Your kindness and support is

100%. Thank you for caring.”

“Everyone I talk to in person or on

the phone is very helpful and so

friendly. We love coming to the

Shriners Hospital and we feel so at

home there. We have care and hope

that we can’t get here in Winnipeg.

Thank you for making the kids, their

siblings and us parents so welcome.”

“I can’t say enough good things

about all of our experiences there; we

were surprised at how wonderful

hospital/clinic visits can be. You

don’t really feel like you are in a

hospital at all.”

The above comments are typical

of the feedback that the hospital receives

from patient families. Nobles,

remember these comments when your

units and clubs consider what fund

and the amount that will be donated

at the annual Walk of Smiles. Think

kindly of the Transportation Fund

and money for Iowa Evaluation and

Outreach Clinics.

Twin Cities Hospital is compiling

a list of current and former patients

and their families to serve as “Patient

Ambassadors”. The Public Relations

staff would like to contact these individuals

to see if they could relate

their experiences at Shrine, Masonic,

church and other organizations’ meetings.

To help the patient and/or family

prepare to deliver a message, the

hospital has a created Presenters Tool

Kit.

El Kahir does not have a current

list of addresses and/or phone numbers

of current and former patients. If

you know the names and addresses of

these individuals, would you contact

the El Kahir office or Lauren Elm at

Twin Cities Shrine Hospital- (612)

596-6100 or contact me. If you know

of an organization, who would like to

have a presentation about the hospitals,

let us know.

Mark your calendar to have either

lunch or dinner at Buffalo Wild

Wings 1100 Blairs Ferry Road NE,

Cedar Rapids on Wednesday, October

9th. Ten per cent of the food and

non-alcoholic beverages will be donated

to SHC-TC. Be sure to take a

coupon to hand to the server. The

coupon may be on another page of

this issue, on the El Kahir Web Site

or obtained at the office. On Wednesdays,

the restaurant has a special

child’s menu. Take the family out for

a nice dinner and help our kids. The

first three months, March, April and

May, donations from this restaurant

totaled $173.

Until next month, remember-keep

our kids in your heart. ------- Carl
