KICKSTART YOUR TRIP
There’s no more convenient way to travel than on a tour, it
takes all the hassle out of travelling, opens your mind to local
cultures, gets you trying out a whole bunch of exciting new
activities and is a great way to make new friends from all over
the world. You’ll visit all the must-see highlights, of course, but
expert guides will also take you to authentic, out-of-the-way
places that only those with insider knowledge would know.
You’d probably never find them on your own! Taking a tour can
usually be cheaper than trying to put it together yourself so
whatever your budget, we’re confident you’ll find your perfect
trip. We also guarantee that you will not find the same tour
cheaper anywhere else.
To help you choose the trip style that’s right for you, see the
‘Inclusions’ box on each of the tour pages and look out for the
following logos throughout the brochure:
These tours encourage you to step off the beaten path and
immerse yourself in your chosen destination. You’ll usually
share your trip with no more than 22 like-minded travellers,
though the average group size is often lower.
As above, but exclusively for younger travellers looking to
experience the best of North America with a bunch of fun and
friendly travel mates.
On these trips, which typically have a larger group size, you’ll
travel only with 18-35 year olds who share your passion for
discovery. These trips are super sociable, ideal for making new
friends through shared experiences.
Independent travel in North America is easy with Moose
Travel and Bamba Experience, whose hop-on, hop-off
bus networks allow you to explore at your own pace and
according to your own itinerary.
Exactly what it says on the tin. These exciting short tours
can be booked on their own, added on to a longer tour or
mixed and matched to create your own itinerary. You are
likely to be travelling with other like-minded people but each
tour is different, run by our local operators and designed for
maximum enjoyment.
If you are looking for private arrangements for you and your
travel buddy(ies), check out our range of itineraries that
usually come complete with private driver/guide.

making
it count
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY…
Responsible travel has been with STA Travel in various shapes
and forms since our pioneering days. Over the decades, we’ve
helped millions of travellers to make deep connections to places
they visit, and to come away with a greater sense that we’re
sharing this world.
We believe that far from being a negative force, real sustainable
travel has the power to create opportunities to develop
communities and build a greater understanding between the
many great cultures in the world that we share.
To ensure we’re doing all we can to fulfil our responsibilities we
have created a three pillar approach to social responsibility.
In order to ensure that we meet our responsibilities in these
areas we have created a three pillar strategy made up of Our
World, Our Action and Our People.
You can learn more about this at
statravel.co.nz/social-responsibility.htm
OUR PEOPLE
As an employer we take our responsibility very seriously.
We want to make sure that we support the next generation
through offering apprenticeships and working with community
partners local to our offices through our staff volunteering
programme.
OUR WORLD
This planet is our playground. It is therefore only right that we
do all we can to preserve it for future generations by reducing
our environmental impact.
OUR ACTIONS
We work with credible partners to secure travel experiences
that are not only authentic but also responsible and
sustainable as well as regularly assessing all of our operations
to ensure that we can be proud of how we do our business. We
also fund our very own charity, the STA Travel Foundation.
14
Founded in 2012, the STA Travel
Foundation is our chosen method of
giving something back to the people
and places that we work in. By funding a
number of projects we are really making
a difference to local communities as
well as supporting local causes in the
countries where we have stores and
offices. By harnessing our brand to
raise money from our staff, customers,
suppliers and networks we can help
smaller charities access vital funds.
STA Travel covers all costs of running
this registered charity meaning that
every penny the Foundation raises
goes straight towards our chosen
causes around the world. STA Travel
also donates $30,000 per year to the
foundation via staff donation matching.
You can learn more at:
statravelfoundation.com
In 2010 STA Travel embarked on
a responsible travel journey with
Planeterra. Planeterra exists to support
local people to develop their communities
and conserve their cultural heritage. STA
Travel has committed $1 million over five
years to Planeterra and has so far been
instrumental in funding a community
tourism project in Thailand, water
tanks and a river ambulance in Panama,
building a paediatric ward in Kenya and
creating an art workshop at a drop-in
centre for kids in Cuzco.

VOLUNTEERING & THE STA
TRAVEL CODE OF CONDUCT
If you are looking to make a worthwhile
contribution to the areas you visit,
pick up a copy of our volunteering
brochure. We only work with a select
number of partners who build meaningful
relationships with local communities.
We have collaborated with them to
develop a set of criteria that help
voluntourism providers plan and manage
their programmes in a responsible
and sustainable manner. Ensuring that
local community needs are met while
at the same time satisfying the desires
of travellers to make a difference and
create lasting impact, requires effective
planning and management and consistent
monitoring. This ensures that our
voluntourism projects are developed with
the local communities’ needs, and not the
travellers’ or STA Travel’s needs as the
first priority. Please ask if you would like
a copy of our Code of Conduct.
