interview with one of the Fathers or Deacons (6
months notice required). Couples who are planning to
be married at St. Luke’s are expected to regularly
worship with our Parish Community and to participate
in a Marriage Preparation Course.

ministry once again invites the
parishioners to participate in this
year’s “Christmas Hamper
Program.”
The gift tree will be in the Narthex from Saturday,
December 1 st through to Monday, December 17 th
with “Angel Tags” for boys & girls, infants to 12 years,
“Teen Tags” & “Turkey Voucher” envelopes. NEW gifts
are to be returned to the church unwrapped, with tag
attached, prior to Monday, December 17.
To aid the volunteer workers assembling the Hampers,
an approximate value of the gift added to the tag
would be appreciated. Please consider donating to
brighten the Christmas of those less fortunate than us.
You will remain anonymous, but your

SIMBANG GABI 2012
Simbang Gabi is a beautiful Filipino
religious tradition. It consists of a
series of 9 Masses prayed in honor of
the Blessed Virgin Mary in anticipation
of Christmas. Simbang Gabi, which
translates to Mass of Night, will be
celebrated here at St. Luke’s on the
following remaining nights: Dec 10, 11,
12, 14, 17, 18, and 19 th . The evenings will begin with
caroling at 6:00 pm followed with Mass @ 6:30pm
(prayed in Tagalog).
A reception and fellowship will follow.

FOR ADULTS
If you are an adult Catholic who was baptized, but
never Confirmed, it is never too late to receive the
Sacrament of Confirmation!

ST. LUKE’S YOUTH & YOUNG ADULTS
Thanks to all volunteers and
organizers in support of 98 youth
who attended the MARY
CHRISTMAS “WAITING WITH
MARY” ADVENT YOUTH
RETREAT for ages 8 to 17. We
celebrated how Mary put our Lord
first in her heart. Don’t forget to act
on your “yes” to Jesus as we
prepare for his coming. Check out
the beautiful cupcake rosary made
by our very own Cheryl Rust!
Congrats to 18 young adults who read YOUCAT. St.
Luke’s is considering another book study in 2013 for
Sr. and Jr. High, ages 13-17.

When we go out to meet others we take care to
put on the right clothes, wash our face, style our
hair, and look our best. John the Baptist looked
rough on the outside but the message of Jesus
was heard through his words and actions. All who
have been baptised have a responsibility to
This Advent, consider not only your physical appearance but whether your words and actions set an
example of Christian discipleship for others to follow. The sacrament of reconciliation is an opportunity to
prepare the way of the Lord by preparing ourselves to be more authentic witnesses to the Gospel. In
addition to the regular parish schedule, the sacrament of Reconciliation will be available at parishes
throughout the Diocese of Calgary all the Wednesdays of Advent and Lent from 7:30 – 8:30pm.

Action: This week, go proclaim the Gospel with your actions. Become an agent of love;
commit a random act of kindness.
MISSION MEXICO WEEKEND: DEC 8/9
Bishop Henry has again declared the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe as Mission Mexico Day in the
Diocese of Calgary. Mission Mexico is an outreach project of Catholics in the Diocese of Calgary to
marginalized communities in southern Mexico. In partnership with a number of accountable on-site
agencies, we fund culturally sensitive, dignity-affirming initiatives in health, education and human rights.
These have included construction of a high school, equipping computer labs and libraries, funding clean
water and sanitation projects, underwriting adult literacy programs, and providing student bursaries. We
are asking every parishioner in the diocese to contribute a loonie on Mission Mexico Day to support this
missionary outreach.
At Masses on December 8-9 a special collection will be received for Mission Mexico.
