HEAVYCON –heavy-duty plug-inconnectorsHeavy-duty plug-in connectors in theHEAVYCON series can be used in extremelyharsh conditions such as dirt, water, vibrations and high mechanical strain andare tight up to IP69K degree of protection. The robust plastic and metal housings areavailable with single or double locking latchor with screw locking. In addition to terminaladapters, contact inserts with differentconnection methods are available in versionswith a fixed number of positions and asmodules for side-by-side mounting.2 PHOENIX CONTACT

Make use of these benefitsThe advantagesRugged plug-in connector for themost demanding requirements• Housing with IP65 to IP69K protection• Use of corrosion-resistant aluminumdie-cast alloys or polyamideYour benefits• Can be used in particularly harshenvironments, e.g. the chemical industry, rail, offshore, the automotive industry, machine building and systems manufacturing• Ensures effective protection (e.g. againstcorrosion, EMC, and strain-cracks)• Reliable and safe operationHousing with single anddouble locking latch• Sleeve housings, panel/box mounting bases, and coupling housings with all lockingmethods• Space-saving• Ease of use• Saves a significant amount of time• Replaceable latch• Flexible mountingADVANCE housings• No panel mounting base required• Compatible with standard panel cutouts• Screw locking• Up to 50% more cabling space• Cost savings• Space-saving structure• Convenient cabling• Fast and reliable housing lockingA wide range of contact inserts andterminal adapters• With screw, crimp, spring-cage, push-in,and IDC displacement connection• High-quality materials• Suitable for conductors with or withoutsplicing protection• Quicker and more secure connection ofconductors• Long-term stability• Tool-free connection• Suitable for solid and stranded conductorsModularity of the contact inserts• Up to six different contact inserts in oneHEAVYCON housing• Efficient and individual design of contactinserts• Transmit data, signals, and power via oneplug-in connectorPHOENIX CONTACT 3

The evolution of heavy-dutyindustrial plug-in connectorsSwitch to HEAVYCON EVO now and savestorage costs. With the new plastic pluginconnector, you just need one sleevehousing for every possible application. The use of high-quality materials and fullcompatibility with the industry standardenable failsafe use in a wide range ofapplications.Keep track of developments and find outabout the many advantages of the newHEAVYCON EVO plastic plug-inconnectors.High resistance to loadsThe plastic housings made from PA are testedin accordance with IP65 protection and shocktestedto IK08 standard. Fire protectionadd-ons in accordance with UL94 V0 areguaranteed halogen-free.New PT insertsThe push-in connection technology, which hasbeen proven a million times over with modularterminal blocks, offers easy and safe handlingthanks to the convenient plug-in principle.Easy sealThe supporting base elements in the EVOseries have compression stops at the fourscrew connections for the correspondingflat gaskets. This enables easy positioningof the seals and they do not slip whenthe housings are screwed on.Energy savings in the manufacturingprocessConsiderably less energy is needed tomanufacture plastic than to manufacturealuminum.4 PHOENIX CONTACT

Contact inserts with a fixed number ofpositions and modular contact insertsContact inserts are available both asversions with a fixed number of positions, even for mixed assembly, and as modularcontact inserts for the widest range ofparameters, such as number of positions, connection cross section, rated voltage, and rated current. Contact insertsare available for the A / B / BB / BBB/D /DD / HS / HV / K/Q, and M series. Insertswith screw, crimp, spring-cage, push-in, andIDC displacement connection are available.Quick codingIt is often necessary to protectidentical plug-in connectors whichare located next to each other frombeing interchanged. In contrastto previous coding methods, suchas coding bolts, pins or sockets,HEAVYCON contact inserts arequickly coded by snapping in codingprofiles.10 PHOENIX CONTACT

Connection technologies for HEAVYCON contact insertsScrew connectionThe distinguishing features of thisconnection, which is designed for themost stringent requirements, are itsmaintenance-free conductor connectionand the frequently-required multiconductorconnection. Copper cables canbe clamped without pretreatment or withferrules. The current-carrying metal parts of thescrew connections are made of high-grade,strain-crack and corrosion-proof copperalloys. This eliminates the possibility ofelectrolytic corrosion in the presence ofhumidity and the risk of rusting and itsconsequences.A further advantage is the low temperaturerise due to good electrical conductivity.Crimp connectionThe wire/crimp contact connection isestablished using a crimping tool suitablefor both the conductor cross-sectionand the crimp contact by the deliberatedeformation of the crimping area of thecrimp contact, and the wire. The wire isstripped, the crimp contact positionedin the crimping tool, the wire inserted, and the crimping tool closed. Done! Thecrimping method results in consistentcrimp quality and therefore constantlylow-contact resistances. Snapped-in crimpcontacts in the contact inserts can bereleased using a contact removal tool.Push-in connectionStranded conductors with splicingprotection or solid conductors can bedirectly inserted into the connectionwithout tools. A screwdriver is onlyrequired for the connection of smallercross-sections and to release theconductor. The connection space isopened using the screwdriver. The pushinconnection provides easy handling, extremely short connection time, anda gas-tight, vibration and shock-proofconnection. All metal parts of theconnection are made of corrosion-resistantmaterials.IDC displacement connectionWith this connection method, an unstrippedwire is guided into the connection spacein front of the insulation displacementcontact of the QUICKON connectionand then levered into the gap using ascrewdriver, thereby severing the wireinsulation and creating a gas-tight contactbetween the wire and contact. Done! Thismeans that the wire does not have to bestripped in advance, which reduces theconnection time by at least 60%.With this method, wires can be connectedup to 10 times. The used wire-end shouldbe cut off before connecting again.PHOENIX CONTACT 11
