Harmonize Technology with Business
“A well designed, business focused service-oriented architecture strategy will enable
companies to save vast amounts of money and enable them to change business models
quickly. As companies move ever closer towards adopting service-oriented architectures
we see that the delivery, automation and measurement of those services becomes
increasingly business-critical. Organizations must address these architecture
components or fail in becoming truly services-oriented.”
Judith Hurwitz, President & CEO, Hurwitz & Associates
Reality from Redwood
Whether referring to business services in the context of enterprisewide
document management or business process automation, the
same applies. The environment is evolving faster than ever
before and persistent themes reverberate. We see real-time,
service-oriented, optimized infrastructure and lowered
total cost of ownership as critical enablers of business
success. Those IT vendors actually delivering
competitive advantage are sought after, but scarce.
Redwood is unique. The company has proven
solutions for infrastructure integration and
document management, between any
application, across any platform. We enable
our customers to win by allowing them to
sense earlier and respond faster to
business change. In this brochure you
will learn how our technology is
business-critical for companies
around the world, about our
relationship with SAP® AG and how
you can differentiate by
automating your business
processes and leveraging
document management.

Event-Driven Job Scheduling and Business
Process Automation
Cronacle sets a new standard in job scheduling and business
process automation, providing a robust platform for ensuring
reliable execution of critical business processes across the
enterprise. Based on the concept of using business events to
manage and control flow of background processes, Cronacle’s
technology enables the 'Real-Time Enterprise' and is suited to
any business environment.
Cronacle provides a dynamic
execution environment in
which tasks are loaded on
the target server at run
time. This is the only
architecture that provides
the transaction level process
management, required to
meet the service level needs
of the business.
Cronacle is capable of
handling high volume batch, as well as single transaction
application processing demands. It can be configured to
trigger work based on application activity, such as business
transactions, database updates or operating system events.
Offering outstanding functionality and complete flexibility in
supporting both traditional job scheduling as well as new
business process integration requirements.
Cronacle has been built for deployment in extremely complex
as well as simple operating environments. Unmatched levels
of throughput, reliability and scalability are achieved with
Cronacle, while at the same time the overheads associated
with configuration and administration are minimized
through one integrated system.
Headquartered in Norwich, UK,
Virgin Money provides
insurance, credit cards, loans,
pensions, savings, investments
and share dealing services to
more than 500,000 customers.
In 2001 Virgin Money was running its overnight batch
processing based on a series of shell scripts. As the number of
overnight transactions grew to over 10,000, the shell scripts
were not able to handle this level of activity. The amount of
errors and interruptions to the workload was impacting the
timely completion of the batch run.
Virgin Money now depends on Cronacle to manage all
workload that needs to run to support its financial business,
from the processing of statement requests to the completion
of its BACS (Banking Automated Clearing System) payments.
Cronacle’s ability to run processes in parallel as opposed to
sequentially, together with its capacity for recovering jobs
from the point of error has given Virgin Money a solution that
not only takes the management and control of daily and
overnight processing out of the hands of the operators, but
has also resulted in an 80% reduction in Virgin Money’s batch
window.
“Before we had Cronacle in place our overnight batch run
would take over 11 hours. Now we can complete everything
in 2 1/2 hours.”
services, furniture and technology to consumers and
businesses from home-based businesses to Fortune 500
very comprehensive list of requirements that had to be met.
Redwood and SAP ®
In March 2005 Redwood Software announced its OEM agreement with SAP AG. The agreement
provided an embedded solution enhancing the capabilities of SAP NetWeaver® to centrally
manage, monitor and execute all business processes across the extended enterprise. The
embedded solution can be extended to the full version of Cronacle for SAP solutions which includes
integration with non-SAP applications providing complete control over enterprisewide processes.
The new job scheduling technology for SAP NetWeaver brings SAP customers the advanced
process integration capabilities necessary to fully benefit from the unequalled power of the
SAP NetWeaver platform. Redwood has always enjoyed a strong relationship with SAP.
However, with the OEM agreement in place our cooperation has intensified bringing even
greater benefits to SAP customers by further lowering total cost of ownership through
optimizing SAP background processing.
Redwood Software and SAP AG already share a long list of internationally renowned customers such
The Siemens name is synonymous with innovative
technology. It is therefore not surprising that technology has
played an integral role in supporting Siemens' business
processes. For many years, the organization has been one of
the world's largest SAP customers.
When Siemens decided to migrate from SAP R/2® to R/3®, it
knew that robust technology to support the integration of
batch processing between SAP R/3 and legacy systems would
be required. Cronacle for SAP solutions offered the seamless
solution that Siemens was looking for, ultimately enabling a
better service to its SAP users.
A pilot project demonstrated the ease of use and rapid
deployment of the product. Implementation of Cronacle was
very successful and all jobs were being managed ahead of the
go live date.
"In terms of measurable benefit, Cronacle enables us to save
Solving SAP Report
Distribution Challenges
A major oil company reported a 56%
increase in computer generated output
since transitioning from mainframe systems to SAP R/3.
Organizations continue to face the perennial report
distribution challenge of getting multiple document types to a
geographically dispersed
network of end users.
Report2Web for SAP solutions is
a web-based information
management & distribution
solution that enables output
generated by any SAP or non-
SAP business application to be
recipients over the Web.
Instead of having to print
reports or needing to view
output with proprietary client tools, users work with all of
their documents via an intuitive browser interface. Ease of
use features, such as annotations and notes, combined with
immediate access to SAP output ensures that workers
become extremely productive with Report2Web for SAP solutions.
Report2Web offers immediate payback to companies who
have implemented SAP solutions. By removing the reliance on
manual systems for information delivery, end users become
more productive. Significant cost savings are achieved when
there is no longer a need to print and mail reports. Being able
to create a report once, and slice and dice it many times,
enables improved throughput for heavily burdened SAP
application servers. These measurable savings ensure that it
is not long before Report2Web for SAP solutions has delivered a
