19Did you know a writer does not need anaudience, words are still written on a pagewhether someone reads them or not. However,words on a page could be anything; it is onlywhen they are read that they become more thanjust a collection of words. Therefore, I will startwith a thank you for taking the time to read myramblings and to raise them above a merecollection of words.I know it is a bad word in many homes, but Christmas is coming.According to some supermarkets, it has been on its way since Augustwhen the wrapping paper hit the shelves. I love Christmas, I like thedecorations and the sparkles and the soppy films. The best bit ofChristmas is friends and family, spending time with those you love andcare for.The WI fits well with Christmas in many ways. The obvious being thecooking and handicrafts that can be learnt from other members and thevisiting speakers that come to meetings. However, there is more to it thanthat; it is about women reaching women. I think it is about empowerment,support and friendship; it can be seen on a grand scale through thecampaigns but more important is what your local WI can give you.Eastry WI has supported me through my degree and made me realise Ishould shout out what I have achieved. They have also shown me a lotof love and care through a period of ill health.
