Who we areThe Premier’s <strong>Physical</strong> <strong>Activity</strong> <strong>Council</strong> (PPAC) wasestablished in June 2001 to provide a coordinatedapproach to the promotion and provision ofopportunities for physical activity in <strong>Tasmania</strong>.PPAC leads the implementation of the <strong>Tasmania</strong>n<strong>Physical</strong> <strong>Activity</strong> Plan: LIVE LIFE get moving (<strong>Tasmania</strong>n<strong>Physical</strong> <strong>Activity</strong> Plan). PPAC achieves this byundertaking specific initiatives in social marketing,planning, policy, program and resource developmentand assisting external organisations to work towardsachieving the vision of all <strong>Tasmania</strong>ns participating inregular physical activity as part of their everyday life.PPAC membership represents a broad rangeof community and government interests, and issupported by sub-committees in key focus areas.PPAC is also supported by a management team withinthe Department of Economic Development, Tourismand the Arts.Key MessagesPPAC use the tagline ‘<strong>Get</strong> <strong>Moving</strong> <strong>Tasmania</strong>’ toencourage <strong>Tasmania</strong>ns to be physically active. This issupported by the following key messages:qqqqFor adults, including older adults, at least 30minutes of moderate-intensity physical activityon five or more days of the week is needed forgood health. This can be done in three lots of tenminutes of activity throughout the day.For children and young people, at least 60 minutesof moderate to vigorous physical activity everydayis needed for good health. Children should notspend more than two hours a day using electronicmedia for entertainment (for example computergames, TV, internet), particularly during daylighthours when they could be playing outside.It is important to break up long periods of sittingtime with frequent short breaks.Choose active forms of transport (e.g. walking andcycling) to improve your health and reduce yourimpact on the environment.What we doPPAC’s core business includes:qqqidentifying target populations and settings wherethe greatest health, social and economic gainscan be made through increased physical activityparticipationdeveloping, implementing and evaluating evidencebasedstrategies to increase participation in regularphysical activityfacilitating physical activity opportunities by workingcollaboratively with like-minded organisations andproviding support, advice and resources whenappropriate.PPAC’s key initiatives include:qeducating the community about the National<strong>Physical</strong> <strong>Activity</strong> Guidelines through:q ‘Find thirty.
