KLIMA CLIMATE GLAZING04SEMCO KLIMA / SEMCO KLIMASTARMore than just solar protectionThe requirements set by modern architecture for large glass surfaces that are fully transparentand neutrally coated are met by Semcoglas with their premium glazings SEMCO KLIMA andSEMCO KLIMASTAR. These Klima climate glazing products were originally developed for use infacades with a glass coverage of more than 50 percent in order to optimally meet the applicablerequirements for summer thermal insulation.SEMCO KLIMA 500 _ Office building, MünsterSEMCO KLIMA 600 _ Central Canteen, BersenbrückMATCHING SEMCO COLOR FACADEPANELS AVAILABLE [ s. 05SEMCO KLIMA 500 _ Timber Harbor West, HamburgOptimal summerthermal insulationSummer thermal insulation is optimally ensured withthe particularly low g values of Semco Klima glazing -the light comes in, but solar energy and the correspondingheat remains outside. Energy-intensive operation of airconditioners during hot summer months is a thing ofthe past. Our Klima climate glazing is therefore particularlysuitable for facades with a glass proportion of morethan 50 percent.Klima climate glazingSolar energyReflectionReflectionReflectionCoating positionTotal energytransmittance(g value)Secondary heat output through absorptionSEMCO KLIMA permits significantly lesssolar energy transmittance than conventionalthermal insulation glazing.A considerable proportion of the solarenergy falling on the glazing is alreadyreflected away by the outer pane. The rest of the pane construction reflectsso much of the remaining energy thatjust 19 to 37 percent is allowed to passthrough the panes. In the colder seasons, the low Ug value of SEMCOKLIMA and SEMCO KLIMASTAR provides a comfortableroom climate. FOCAL POINT GLASS STRUCTURES07Light-flooded glass structures should provide a comfortable place to stay both in commercial and private buildings. However, temperatures can develop in transitional and summer months that can make a longer presence in such places unbearable. In addition, textiles and wood surfaces are pitilessly exposed to solar UV radiation and even plants are unprotected from burninglens effects.Living under glass becomes a relaxing event, even in high summer, with the climate glazing SEMCO KLIMA and SEMCO KLIMASTAR.Our Klima climate glazing is also equipped with high UV protection so that the plants and interior decorations remain unaffected.Interior temperature curve in a glass structure without the influence of thermal conditions (Ø monthly values)403530Thermal insulation glazingSEMCO STARSEMCO KLIMA 400 (roof)SEMCO KLIMA 700 (facade)Temperature in °C25201510Germany averageexternal temperature50-5Span of externaltemperatureThermal insulation glazing SEMCO STARSource: Calculation results Krämer-Evers Bauphysik, OsnabrückSEMCO KLIMA 400 (roof)Germany average external temperatureSEMCO KLIMA 700 (facade)Conservatory with penthouse roof, south-west alignment without thermal conditions; high air exchange rateGlass types: SEMCO STAR (Ug=1.1; g= 62 %), SEMCO KLIMA 400 (Ug=1.0; g= 21 %) + SEMCO KLIMA 700 (Ug=1.0; g= 37 %)SEMCO KLIMA 400 _ CFK Research Center, StadeSEMCO KLIMA 400 / OPTIMALLY SUITABLE FOR:•Commercial and private buildings with glass structures, conservatories, overhead glazing, atriums, etc.Technical data on Page 32

THERMAL INSULATION GLAZING08SEMCO STAR / SEMCO ENERGYThermal insulation equivalentto a wallWherever summer thermal insulation does not play a role in facades with a relatively low glasspercentage of under 50 percent, the thermal insulation glazing SEMCO STAR and SEMCO ENERGYprovide an excellent and comfortable room climate. Both product groups meet the requirements of the Energy Savings Act. They can be used in lowenergyand passive houses as they permit a lot of energy into the building but not back out again. Are you planning a facade with a glass percentage over 50 percent? Then SEMCO KLIMA or SEMCOKLIMASTAR are the perfect products for you [cf. P. 04].Ug VALUE:THE SMALLER, THE BETTERHeat transfer(Ug value)ReflectionLong-waveheat radiationoutsideinsideThe Ug value indicates how much heat in a roomis transmitted to the outside through glass witha surface of 1 square meter and a temperaturedifference of 1 Kelvin. The EnEV 2009 requires Ug values of 1.1 W/m²K forglass (new building reference value). This value is undershot by SEMCO KLIMASTAR withUg values of up to 0.4 W/m²K, setting new yardsticksin climate protection and energy savings.SEMCO STAR _ Felix Nussbaum Museum, OsnabrückThis keeps the cold outThe thermal energy of solar radiation is optimally utilized and, thanks to a low Ug value, thewarmth remains in the building. Results are achieved that are comparable to the use of solid wallbuilding materials. Unpleasant drafts are a thing of the past as the pane surface does not radiatethe cold. So, high comfort is guaranteed, even directly next to a window.ALL THERMAL INSULATION GLAZINGALSO AVAILABLE WITH THERMALLYINSULATED PLASTIC MULLIONS!Our triple glazing SEMCO ENERGY is also available with g values of over 60 percent.Ask your consultant.

SOLAR PROTECTION GLASS10SEMCO SUN / SEMCO SUN REFLECTCreative reflectionsBuildings get an unmistakably animated profile with the solar protection glazing SEMCO SUN and SEMCO SUN REFLECT. Depending on thearchitectural visual requirements, the choice lies between neutral, blue, bronze, green, silver or gray reflective glass. An individually elegant, aesthetically colored and reflective facade can be achieved through different color gradations of the tinted glazing and different reflectionstrengths.Brilliant and modern surfaces are shown by SEMCO SUN and SEMCO SUN REFLECT, for example, when used in STRUCTURAL GLAZING facadeswhere they can meet the requirements of modern architecture for almost completely seamless glass facades [cf. P. 19].The facade is not just visually brilliant: The excellentthermal insulation with a Ug value of 1.0 W/m²K alsomeets the highest of requirements.Incidentally: If you are planning a facade with a glazingproportion exceeding 50 percent and you also want afully neutral view through the glass, then SEMCO KLIMAor SEMCO KLIMASTAR are the ideal products [cf. 15Fall protection glazingSEMCO SAFE offers integrated protection against cuts with the shard-binding property of the composite film and also providesremaining structural capacity in the case of glass breakage. It is also suitable for fall protection in the correct glass applicationsaccording to TRAV (technical rules for the use of safety glazing). These rules are issued by the German Institute for ConstructionEngineering (DIBt) and taken into consideration in all Federal states by the supervising building authorities.Semcoglas has a „General building inspection test certificate“ (AbP) for safety insulation glazing (double and triple) in the TRAVcategories A, C2 and C3.The minimum configuration is CSG8-0.76 / PIS10 / CSG6-0.38. This can be expanded by a middle pane for triple glazing configurations. It can be produced with safety glass or even float glass. If glazing is produced according to the AbP, then the impact resistance isproven according to TRAV. This avoids the necessity of experimental tests or approvals in individual cases!Numerous easy optionsThe individual glass panes in the composite safety glass SEMCO SAFE SENTRYGLAS ® are bonded together with SentryGlas ® intermediatefilm layers. A wide-ranging field of applications is made possible by the resulting high stiffness.Larger dimensions and less weight are just two of the advantages that this product offers in comparison to composite safety glassusing PVB film as an intermediate layer. SEMCO SAFE SENTRYGLAS ® opens up new architectural possibilities for architects andconstruction engineers.OPTIMALLY SUITABLE FOR:•Protection of valuable objects•Fall protection safety glazing(e.g. balcony balustrades, railings)•Protection of and against personsTechnical data on Page 34

POINT-FIXED GLAZINGSEMCO POINT19Perfect and to the pointFloating facades and transparent lightness of design:The advantages of clear glass facades are clearly pointed out with SEMCOPOINT. Thanks to this excellent system, large surface areas can be realizedwithout frames. The fittings are flush-integrated in the panes with countersunkholes or combined with disc holders through cylindrical glass bores. Themain point here is that: The point-fixed system is equipped with an articulatedholder whose rotation point lies within the glass plane.SEMCO POINT is so simply relaxed: Forces that occur are directly divertedinto the sub-structure. The intrinsic weight of the glass pane does nottherefore cause any additional stresses in the holding area. The thicknessof the glass can be reduced to a minimum. 28 QUALITY FROM SEMCOGLASFLOAT GLASSThe production of float glass in our float glass plant inOsterweddingen is a long, constant, never-ending flow.Only the highest of precision throughout the entire productionline can guarantee the high quality of our float glass. Ourplant can be rightly said to be one of the most modern glassworksin the world.COATINGCoatings, e.g. with silver and metal dioxide, can specificallyinfluence the properties of glass. These materials have a hightransmissivity in the visible spectral range and a highreflectivity in the infrared range. In addition, metal oxideswith a high refractive index are applied for antireflection.

29BLANKThe material glass requires a lot of know-how, secure handlingand state of the art technology. Our experienced specialistsensure perfect results are achieved for blanks, rounded andcanted edges, cut-outs and model panes with the use of stateof the art CNC technology. A comprehensive stock of float andcast glass, together with design and special glazing, ensuresrapid processing of orders. We can meet diverse requirements with precisely dimensionedblanks and process these into high-quality glass products.SPACERHollow profiles made of aluminum, stainless steel, plastic or TPS(Thermo Plastic Spacer) are used as spacers. The two panes in insulation glazing can be held at the requireddistance in this manner.Desiccant is stored in the metal spacers. TPS in contrast does notneed additional desiccant; such a warm edge system enables amore uniform temperature distribution over the glass surface andensures that energy losses are minimized along the edge areas ofinsulation glazing.SEALINGIn the last step, the individual glass panes joined by a spacerare initially sealed circumferentially with Butyl (primary seal). The term Butyl stands for a specific butyl rubber recipe that isproduced through the polymerization of polyisobutyls (PIB).Following this butyling, the insulation glazing panes are sealed(secondary sealing) with a sealant, generally based on polyurethaneor polysulfide. Some of the main properties of Butylare the very high gas and water vapor impermeability, whilethe sealing material is primarily used to secure the stability ofthe insulation glazing pane and hold the Butyl cord in place, inaddition to its sealing function. The standard edge connectorheight is approx. 11 mm.

30QUALITY AND APPROVAL MARKSThe careful selection of high quality preliminary products, the use of environmentally-friendly materials and modern technology, theconstant qualification of the employees and systematic in-house and third-party monitoring from production to delivery all ensureuniform quality of Semcoglas functional glazing for windows and facades.High quality standards are a prerequisite for high customer satisfaction! GLOSSARY35Ug valueg valueUnit of measurement for heat loss of glazing. The smaller the Ug value, the better the thermal insulation.Ug values determined for vertical installation as per DIN EN 673. For physical reasons, the Ug value of insulation glazingincreases dependent on inclination angle when installed at an angle.Unit of measurement for total energy transmittance through glazing.High g value: Additional and free thermal use of sunshine.Low g value: Reduction of summer heating of rooms due to sunshine.Light transmissionDegree of light transmittance in percent. Indicates the percentage of visible light (for the radiation band between 380 nmand 780 nm) that can pass through the glass and is therefore dependent on the glass thickness and coatings. The higher the light transmission, the greater the daylight utilization.Degree of light reflectionThe percentage of visible light (for the radiation range from 380 nm to 780 nm) that is mirrored or reflected on the glasspane surface. A high degree of light reflection means a reduction of glare inside the room.R a valueThe general color reproduction index Ra describes the color impression that the human eye has when viewing an objectilluminated by daylight coming through glazing. With clear glass, R ais 99%.Shading coefficient (b-factor)Average transparency factor of solar energy, based on the total energy transmittance of a double glazing insulation glass, used to calculate the cooling load of glazed rooms.Shading coefficient (b factor) = g value / 0.80 (VDI 2078)R w valueFacade panelsValue for the sound insulation. The higher the sound insulation value, the better the sound insulation. In addition to the sound insulation value, the frequency of the sound source is taken into account with correction factors(C; C (C; C tr) for good noise insulation.Facade panels made of enamelled glass matched in color to the glazing. As color impressions are subjectively evaluated, sampling is recommended before specifying the glazing. The facade panels are mainly used to cover blank sections onbuildings, e.g. ceilings.Glass thickness measurementThe person ordering our products is responsible for ensuring the correct measurement of glass thickness, depending on theapplication, according to the applicable technical regulations and standards.• Combinations with different glass thicknesses are possible.• Dimensional tolerances, see DIN EN 572-8• Tolerance for the emissivity of the coatings: + 0.01 (as per RAL quality criteria)• Tolerance for the Ug value: + 0.1 W/m²K (as per RAL quality criteria)• Tolerance for the g value: ± 0.02 (as per RAL quality criteria)• The functional values given here for the glass products were determined with calculation software validated andcertified by ift Rosenheim (Test Report No. 41041462). The data for the software was based on functional values onstandard structures determined according to the relevant and currently valid test standards by correspondinglyaccredited test institutes. Formats and combinations deviating from this can lead to a change in individual functionalvalues.• The light and radiation-related physical data are calculated or measured values that may fluctuate by ± 2 or 3%depending on the glass manufacturer and the glass thickness, as well as unavoidable production tolerances. Thedata shown here are therefore subject to change.
