Mathematics DepartmentSmart Maths ProgramOur Smart Maths program has just completed one semester ofwork and has been thoroughly enjoyed by 120 Year 8 students.Every fortnight our students have been catching a bus to CurtinUniversity for a one hour lecture in the Mathematics Department.The lectures are presented by eminent Mathematician, ProfessorLou Caccetta. The lectures are followed by a tutorial back atschool, again with input from Professor Caccetta. Themathematics includes number theory, geometry, algebraictechniques and problem solving. This program expands on thenormal curriculum, providing enrichment in mathematics and itsapplication to the real world. It is envisaged that our students willreceive credit from Curtin University when they complete theSmart Maths program at the end of Year 10. All students have access to this rich Maths resource online. This update will improve the Mathleticsexperience for your child and their teacher at school and at home, incorporating a range of engaging and educationally beneficial enhancements.In particular, the Student Centre will receive a complete overhaul, giving students a fresh, new and even more enjoyable experience to ensure theystay excited about learning with Mathletics. These changes have been tested with schools over the last few weeks and the feedback from studentshas been that they love it.
