Where do <strong>to</strong>urists go in Brazil?<br />

There are so many things <strong>to</strong> see and do in Brazil that <strong>the</strong>re is no hope of cramming it all in<strong>to</strong> a two<br />

week holiday! Tourists <strong>going</strong> only for a fortnight have <strong>to</strong> concentrate on a small area of <strong>the</strong> country.<br />

It is possible <strong>to</strong> spend months travelling around Brazil – and still not see everything! Here we try <strong>to</strong><br />

pick out a selection of <strong>the</strong> biggest attractions.<br />

Tijuca<br />

An impressive expanse of new forest lies in a<br />

national park very close <strong>to</strong> Rio. Once a natural<br />

forest, it was cut down <strong>to</strong> make way for coffee<br />

plantations, but <strong>the</strong> forest has been replanted<br />

and it’s a wonderful place <strong>to</strong> escape from <strong>the</strong><br />

hustle and bustle of <strong>the</strong> city. It’s also a paradise<br />

for bird watchers because of <strong>the</strong> large number<br />

of species that live here. There are lots of<br />

walking trails that wind through <strong>the</strong> forest and<br />

guided <strong>to</strong>urs are also available.<br />

Rio's beaches and carnival<br />

The beaches of this huge Brazilian city are a very important part of city life. During <strong>the</strong> day, in<br />

<strong>the</strong> evenings and at weekends, locals go <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> sand <strong>to</strong> talk, relax and play sports. In fact, Rio’s<br />

beaches are bustling, popular places 24 hours a day! People of all ages come <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>se fabulous<br />

beaches and chill out by <strong>the</strong> sea. Of course, <strong>the</strong> Rio Carnival is a world famous event and<br />

thousands of people flock <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> city so <strong>the</strong>y can experience it.<br />
