Welcome to the Anglo-Belgian Club in London and thank you for your interest in our
vibrant and active Club. On the following pages you will find out why every month 10
new members join our organisation and I have resumed the key reasons below if you
do not have the time to read the whole brochure right away:
The Anglo-Belgian club offers its members a wide range of advantages to suit different
members’ needs: Central London Club House facilities, over 20 annual and exclusive Club
events, access to a wide Anglo-Belgian network, a home from home and friendship.
Whether you are a Londoner, an expatriate based in London, a UK resident living
outside London or living abroad, the Club has something to offer to make your life
more comfortable, more pleasant and simply easier when you are in London.
A quick free cup of coffee or tea, discounted lunch or dinner, a private meeting or a
social gathering, an event or a conference, an overnight or a 3 month stay, meeting
up with friends at the bar or giving a reception, organising a corporate event or
private party – it is all possible at the Club - in style and at special Club Member rates.
Whether you are in London for private, business or family reasons, the Club is always
open for you to enjoy, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Moreover Club Membership
offers you access to hundreds of other Clubs worldwide.
Every First Tuesday all members are invited to join fellow members at the Club House
for a drink on the house and to meet important and interesting Anglo-Belgians who
work, live or visit London. A unique opportunity to make new friends and network.

History of the Anglo-Belgian Club
The origins of the Club date back to 1942 when the Belgian Government in London
set up the Belgian Institute in Belgrave Square to propagate knowledge of Belgium,
its people, its arts and its institutions.
After the war the Anglo-Belgian Club was established to take up and pursue the
activities of the Institute and it became a well-known Anglo-Belgian base in London.
At the end of the lease on the Belgrave Square house in 1978, the Club was able to
associate with the Royal Thames Yacht Club, established in 1775, in Knightsbridge.
On 1 July 2010, the Anglo-Belgian Club moved to its current Club House near
Trafalgar Square to accommodate the 21st century needs of its members.
The Club's President is H.R.H. Prince Philippe of Belgium.

Our four star Club House, located at 8 Northumberland Avenue adjacent to
Trafalgar Square, started life as the famous 500 bedroom Victoria Hotel, which
opened in 1877. During World War II it was used as offices for the Ministry Of
Defence. In 2006 this historical nineteenth century building was restored and
behind the beautiful exterior you will find a modern Club with a splendid design
with high ceilings and large open areas such as the entrance hall and stunning
marble gallery . As you will see, the club has still kept many historical features and
some of the interiors such as the restaurant and bar have marble cladding. There is
an original Victorian ballroom seating 250 guests which has been restored to its
former glory.
As before, our Club House is an exclusive club with restricted entry. This provides
you with a safe and secure environment.
The Anglo-Belgian Club is located in the heart of the West End. Within a short
walking distance you will find London’s biggest attractions such as Big Ben, the
Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and Covent Garden.

The immediate area around our Club House is
associated with Government departments and tourist
attractions such as Trafalgar Square, Downing Street,
Horse Guards Parade, The Mall, Leicester Square, the
National Gallery and Covent Garden.
Directly to the south are Victoria Embankment, the
River Thames and Southbank with attractions
including the Royal Festival Hall, the London Eye and
the Tate Modern art gallery. Nearby you will find
theatres, bars, restaurants and cafés for a wonderful
night out with friends or colleagues.

Our sister Club House is set in the historic district of
the City of London, adjacent to the popular
Leadenhall Market shopping area. Nestled among
charming pedestrian streets linking London's ancient
churches, parks and public houses, it is just a short
walk to the Tower of London, the Bank of England
and London Bridge.

Our second sister Club House is located on the west
side of the City, adjacent to St. Paul's Cathedral and
located in the courtyard of the historic Stationers Hall.

How to get there
The Anglo-Belgian Club,

The Club is only a 2-minute walk from
Embankment tube station (Circle, District,
Northern, Bakerloo lines). You can also
take the Bakerloo and Northern lines to
Charing Cross tube station (a 3-minute
walk) or Piccadilly and Northern lines to
Leicester Square tube station (a 5-minute
walk). By bus, stop at Trafalgar Square or
Charing Cross. From the Belgian or
Luxembourg Embassy, bus no. 9 to Aldwych
will take approximately 15 minutes.
By car. There are metered parking spaces
along Northumberland Avenue. Alternatively,
the Anglo-Belgian Club is served by
Masterpark Car Park at Spring Gardens,
Cockspur Street (adjacent to Trafalgar
Square). The Car Park is a 3-minute walk
from the Club. The cost is £40 for 24hrs,
£13 overnight; hourly rates start from £6.
Taxis are also in abundance at any time.

The Club Living Room, with its high ceilings, is located on the ground floor. In addition
there is also an elegant upstairs Gallery both of which can only be accessed with your
membership card and are for members and Club guests only.
The private oak paneled Club Living Room has an arrangement of chairs, sofas and
coffee tables where members and their guests can relax or have a private conversation.
It comes with compli-mentary coffee, tea, newspapers, magazines and games.
There are 3 modern workstations with task lighting, ergonomic chairs, 2-line
speakers and a cordless phone to call reception or catering. Members can surf the
internet, check their e-mails and even print out documents free. There are also
access points for laptops so you can connect to the internet without the need for
an access code.
Business meetings in the Club Living Room are restricted to 3 persons and members
are advised to respect the presence of other members when using the facilities
(see our Club Rules). If you have more guests, a variety of separate meeting rooms
are available. At one end of the room, there is a wide screen cable television. The
other end of the room has an original Victorian featured fire place.

Club Bar & Brasserie
Boyd’s Bar & Brasserie is a casual English restaurant
that offers fine food and wines at affordable prices in
a spectacular space.
The brasserie is ideal for casual business gatherings
and relaxed networking. Boyd’s prices for 2 courses
are currently £14.90 and £15.90 for 3 courses.
Members receive points on a loyalty card for each
visit – for each £200 you spend, you will receive a free
bottle of champagne!
ABC members will receive a discount (during the
whole year) of 15% on normal prices – except on
offers such as the set menus or other promotions.

Review of Boyd’s Brasserie by Connoisseur
STUART PRITCHARD, an acclaimed food
critic, used the opportunity of a recent trip to
London to pop by Boyd's Bar Brasserie.
“Opened in January 2010 at the majestic
Northumberland House, the Brasserie looks
magnificent, with huge walls of swirling
green and brown marble running from the
floor up to the lavish hoop chandelierlittered
ceiling high above Jacques’ bar
area. It's grand in the truest sense and
although you should never judge a book by
its cover, the whole thing says "Yes, this is
going to cost serious money.
However, when you pick up the menu you
realise that a visit to Boyd’s, despite
appearances, is not going to cause your
bank manager sleepless nights at all.
Now that's a refreshing change.”
Feast for the eyes
“And refreshing change number two comes
in the form of the menu itself. A mixed bag
of delights to suit most palates and desires;
fancy burger and chips? Then you shall have
burger and chips (albeit chopped aged beef
cooked to your specification). Looking for
something a little fancier? Then how does
poached guinea fowl supreme with baby
gem and parmesan salad and sweet
mustard dressing sound? There's even a
range of mouth-watering vegetarian options, such as Gnocchi with aubergine, Parmesan, crispy chilli and garlic that
could almost convince a raging carnivore such as me to switch sides.
All ingredients used have painstakingly been sourced from the 21-day aged Cairngorm National Park beef steaks to
the London cure smoked salmon, to the handmade quiche's Cheddar that completes Boyd's range of elegant soufflé
omelettes; nothing has been left to chance.
Presentation too is immaculate, each plate arranged like a work of food-art that actually left me with minor pangs of
guilt as I set about demolishing them. Another key detail in the Boyd's arsenal is the impeccable service (and, no, the
waiting staff did not know I was there to review the place). It all culminates in a hugely enjoyable dining experience.”
The Benelux Library is based on the ground floor and is also used as a quiet room.
It has 2 computer screens which allow members to read Belgian and Luxembourg
newspapers on-line.
It also contains our Club collection of books and we have a selection of Belgian
and Luxembourg magazines. For a full list of our book collection, please contact

Meeting Rooms
All meeting rooms have the latest equipment you can
expect in a professional environment and include:

The meeting rooms can accommodate up to 50 people
and usually have natural day light. There is an
extremely original boardroom for meetings in style.

Our Club House is a great venue to organise your private and business events in London,
accommodating up to 1000 people. The recently restored function rooms create a

Club Accommodation
There are 288 four star rooms spread
over 8 floors at 8 Northumberland
Avenue. You can combine bedrooms
and suites to create a family room. The
standard bed size is queen size. Twin
beds are available upon request in
standard rooms and in some studios.
Check-in time is from 3:00pm and check-out time is noon. Early check-in or late
check-out can be arranged. You can check in as late as 6:00am the day after you are
due to arrive. Your credit card automatically guarantees your room. Visa, America
Express, MasterCard and Diner’s Club are all accepted.
‘NIGHT ON THE HOUSE’ VOUCHER
When members check in they should ask for their ‘Night on the House’ voucher.
You are entitled to a ‘Night on the House’ voucher for each business weekday stay,
(Monday-Thursday), not weekends. During your next stay at any of the Club
Quarters, present the Voucher to the Member Service Desk for validation and pick
up a new one. The validated voucher entitles you to one complimentary night
subject to the following terms and conditions:

In order to log in, ABC members have to fill in their current membership number
and a password which they will have received via the post with their membership
statement.
The reservation desk (Member Service Associate) can be reached as from 8 a.m.
onwards till very late. Sometimes the phone will be answered by a staff member in
the U.K., sometimes by a staff member from the U.S.A. They are all very friendly,
efficient and helpful.
To make a reservation always mention the fact that you are an “Anglo-Belgian Club
Member” which will ensure that you get the discounted ABC rate. Also do not
forget to mention the location “Trafalgar Square” and any other special request
that you may have. When making a reservation for the week-end, please note that
they are subject to availability. When all availability is taken, the roomrates will be
higher. The e-mail service for reservations is closed during the week-end. All the
replies are being sent on Mondays.
When members have a query in respect of their bill they should make the enquiry
immediately at the desk as the staff at reception are there to assist you.
Please also have your credit card at hand as this will guarantee your reservation. In
case of cancellation, please inform 24 hours before your date of arrival.
At the main entrance of the Club there is also a special access outside lift for
persons with a wheelchair. This can also be used for luggage.

outside the UK or USA, please contact them directly via the telephone number or
website address printed in this brochure and mention ‘Anglo-Belgian Club’.
A letter of introduction from the Anglo-Belgian Club has to be requested and will
be signed by the Club Secretary. We are working on an online reservation facility
which will be ready in the near future.

The Club provides 4 types of rooms:

Each of these rooms has a workstation with task lighting, network printing and
ergonomic chairs. They further include flat-screen LCD TV, 2-line speaker and cordless
phones and MP3 alarm clock radios with iPod docking station and CD player.
Every room has a bathroom with a make-up/shaving mirror, toilet and shower.
Superior rooms can accommodate up to 3 persons and also include a kitchenette
with microwave and refrigerator. Some of these rooms can accommodate a sofa
bed or a rollaway bed. These rooms and beds are only available by prior request
and are subject to availability.
Suites can accommodate up to 4 persons and also include a sofa and a kitchenette

The Anglo-Belgian Club is one of the more affordable London Clubs offering true
value for money.

If you would like to join the Anglo-Belgian Club, you need a proposer and
seconder, both current members of the Club, who support your application.
The application form can be filled in on-line at www.ra-bc.com The Committee will
then put you on the election list and inform you as soon as possible about your
application. If you do not know any current Club members, please contact the Club
Secretary to discuss your membership. Once you have been accepted as a member,
a membership card with your picture will be issued, giving you access to the private
Club and meeting rooms of the Club House.
As the Club House is a restricted area you will need your membership card to enter.
The entrance hall and Bar & Brasserie are open to all. Membership cards are issued
when we have received your membership payment. They are annually renewable. In
an emergency, you can request a temporary card from the reception and if you book a
bedroom your bedroom key card will allow you to enter into the restricted zones too.
Membership card
In order to issue your membership card, we need a photograph of you. Ideally this
should be sent by e-mail in jpeg to daniellemassaux@ra-bc.com. Alternatively, it can
be sent by post to the Club House for the attention of Daniëlle Massaux, Liaison
Manager. Without your picture, we are unable to issue your new membership card.
You will be informed by e-mail when your membership card is ready for collection.
It will be kept at the reception desk of the Club House. We are not able to send you
the membership card by post (in case of loss or theft) as the membership card costs
£50.00 to be re-issued.

Club Rules
Every Club House has club rules though we have
adapted them to today’s needs and expectations
allowing members to enjoy their stay and the
premises to the full.
Weekdays:
1. Dress code Attire -
Casual business on weekdays.
2. No children under 12.
All days:
3. One member may invite & sign in up to
two guests at any one time.
4. Gatherings in lounges of more than 3 are
required to take a private room.
5. Considerate use of complimentary
work stations.
6. Discrete use of mobile phones/internet/
phone calls.
7. Reciprocal Clubs – members can enjoy reciprocal
privileges at many other worldwide private
clubs. Reservations may be placed directly with
the reciprocal club of your choice. These private
clubs do require a letter of introduction, which
your Club Secretary can provide. Replacement
of lost membership access keys are charged
at £50.
8. Only food/drink purchased on site is
permitted for consumption.
9. Membership is subject to compliance with
Club Rules, as determined by the review board
from time to time.

Reciprocal Clubs
Thanks to our association with Club Quarters, our members now have access to reciprocal clubs of a very high standard all over the
world. Please obtain a ‘Letter of Introduction for Reciprocal Clubs’ from the Club Secretary prior to each visit and check if there are
any restrictions to the respective Clubs. For information about the clubs, please visit their website.
