professional concentration in<strong>Autism</strong> spectrum disordersWith a prevalence of 1 in 88 children, autism spectrum disorders (ASD) is the fastestgrowing serious developmental disability in the U.S. Those professionals who care forand educate these children require specialized knowledge and skills to accommodate thedistinctive needs of children on the autism spectrum.The Professional Concentration in <strong>Autism</strong> <strong>Spectrum</strong> <strong>Disorders</strong> is a 3-course series designedto develop clinical skills in an array of evidence-based practices for assessment andintervention in educational and community settings. The program is a unique partnershipbetween <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong> <strong>Extension</strong>, a leader in continuing and online education, the <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong>MIND Institute, an internationally renowned research center committed to the treatment andcure of autism, and <strong>Autism</strong> Behavior Training Associates, a group of professional educatorswith more than 50 years of cumulative experience working with children on the autismspectrum. The program has trained more than 800 professionals since launching in 2006.Offered fully onlineThe Professional Concentration in <strong>Autism</strong> <strong>Spectrum</strong> <strong>Disorders</strong> is delivered in an engaging,interactive online format developed by the award-winning online studio at <strong>UC</strong> <strong>Davis</strong><strong>Extension</strong>. Participants progress through the content as a cohort, while still enjoyingthe flexibility to log on at the time and place of their choosing. Three primaryareas of impairment (communication,socialization and restricted patterns ofbehavior) are examined, along withemotional regulation and sensorimotordifferences. Explore the latest researchon potential causes, best practices forassessment and intervention, as well ascurrent legal and ethical issues relatedto autism services.
