Cain Diane Claeys - In memory of David Block Mary Davis - In memory of Allen Kleeman A Trip To Camp Courageous by Brandi Adam, Jenny Christensen, and Mary Lyons A group from Washington Elementary School attended Camp Courageous of Iowa at the end of April. This year 14 campers from Washington Elementary and one from Libertyville Elementary attended camp with our group. Ms. Brandi, Mrs. Christensen, Mrs. Lyons, and associate volunteers supervised the campers ranging in age from 3-10 years. The camp is located outside Monticello, Iowa, and has a variety of opportunities for campers to enjoy. Included are pictures of various students and staff participating in camp experiences. For example, riding on a train, enjoying a campfire meal, walking across a Burma bridge, zooming down a zip line, swimming, horseback riding, and even spelunking/ caving. This is a great opportunity for students to test their courage and become more independent individuals. Camp Courageous is a three days and two nights fun and learning extravaganza for our students! This is often a new word to many of the campers who explore the two caves at camp. One is an easy 40 foot crawl into the darkness and the other is a 550 foot expedition to the back and then another 550 feet crawling out again. Some campers explore as far as the entrance of the caves while others venture further. There are many ways to become a spelunker at Camp Courageous. Campers using wheelchairs are assisted so they too can feel the cool 55 degree temperature of these underground wonderlands. Camp is in need of new helmets. Attached is the helmet we hope to obtain as we retire helmets we have been using for many, many years. With chin straps stretching and helmets cracking we are in dire need of an upgrade. For $22.00 a new helmet will be worn with pride. We are hoping to acquire 24 helmets by next summer. Thanks for considering a donation to keep our caving program going strong.
