<strong>The</strong> <strong>Marcel</strong> <strong>Shipp</strong> 5 th <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Essay</strong> <strong>Writing</strong> <strong>Contest</strong><strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> RequirementsSubmission Deadline: All essays can be submitted by via email mail by May 7th 2012.After May 7 th 2012 there will be no more essays accepted.<strong>Rules</strong>:1. A written essay is the only literary form accepted (no poems, plays, songs, etc.).2. Only one (1) essay may be submitted by each student.3. <strong>Essay</strong>s must reflect the student's own research, writing, <strong>and</strong> original thinking.4. All plagiarized essays will be disqualified from the contest.Eligibility:<strong>The</strong> <strong>Essay</strong> <strong>Contest</strong> is open to all 1st- through 12th-grade students.Judging Criteria<strong>Essay</strong>s will be judged by education professionals using the five criteria described below.1. Comprehension: How well does the essay reflect a thorough underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the topic? (1-20points)2. Conclusions: Do the conclusions follow logically from the topic. (1-20)3. Creativity: Were diverse resources <strong>and</strong> ideas used to develop the main points? (1-20 points)4. <strong>Writing</strong> Style: Were concise language <strong>and</strong> correct grammar, spelling, <strong>and</strong> punctuation used?(1-20 points)<strong>Essay</strong>s must be in the following format :1. Must have a cover page with name, age, grade <strong>and</strong> school2. All essays has to be typed in 12-point font <strong>and</strong> Double-spaced3.
