Founded in 1969, we have offices in San Francisco, Amsterdam, Berlin, Milan, Madridand Paris with the headquarters in London.Tribal peoples number over 150 million individuals worldwide, but all too often their landownership and human rights are ignored; their voices are not heard. Survival is working towardsa world where tribal peoples’ diverse ways of living are understood and respected, and whereoppression of them is simply not tolerated.Survival has a strict funding policy which ensures the integrity and focus of our work. We do notaccept funds from anyone likely to comprise our objectives or independence. And to avoid therisk of both manipulation and financial dependence, we do not accept money from any national


government. We receive funds from a small number of trusts, but we rely on individualsupporters to provide most of our money.Whether through donating, campaigning, buying goods from our trading catalogue or organizinga fundraising event, our supporters are vital to our existence.The Fundraising & Outreach Assistant will be responsible for administering and supporting theimplementation of a range of fundraising strategies. This is a busy, multi-faceted and challengingjob with a unique organization.JOB DESCRIPTION manage Survival’s head office reception including a small sales area & franking facility respond to all written, email, web and telephone enquiries swiftly and efficiently ensure comprehensive, effective and efficient data administration including financialdonation processing, recording supporter details, reporting results and validating data maintain accurate and up-to-date records on the supporter database and filing systems acknowledge all donations, send thank you letters and process donations in liaison with thefinance department and head of department first point of contact for all fundraising/donation enquiries to the charity build and maintain relationships with donors and help to look for new opportunities forengaging and interacting with supporters develop & grow catalogue sales, by overseeing the fulfillment of all customer orders(processed by our packing house) and handling customer enquiries promote and distribute Survival’s printed materials support community fundraising activities and sponsored events, through the fulfillmentof fundraising materials requests, mailing of fundraising packs, processing of sponsorshipforms, promotional mailings etc. support other fundraising activities or any other duties of a similar nature, as agreed with thedepartment head being part of a small team you’ll need to help with many other varied tasks including movingboxes, setting up meeting rooms etc.PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONWe need hard-working, intelligent and straightforward people who are efficient, learn fast, get onwith the job without being told to, but who know when to seek advice or clearance, people whocan fit in easily, but who are happy to work largely on their own, people with their own ideas butwho are equally able to focus on and support those of others. In general, we are less impressedwith formal qualifications than with individual ability, desire to learn and a real commitment tohelp us continue building this organization.


To do this job you must:have an extremely high standard of English. You must be able to write well, using anappropriate tone and with correct punctuation and grammar. Candidates may be tested andwe would urge those who do not fulfill this criterion not to pursue their applicationhave knowledge of or experience of participating in charity fundraisinghave experience of donor/customer relationship managementhave knowledge of or experience with donor or membership databaseshave the ability to think strategically and to identify opportunities for increasing and retainingdonor incomehave the ability to judge the appropriate style, tone and level of content for communicationshave previous experience of reception/switchboard and office routineshave experience of administration i.e. record keeping, filing etc.be competent in numeracy (you should be able to work out percentages, unit costs etc.)be both meticulous and very well organized, with an ability to plan and prioritizehave excellent attention to detail and ability to proof-readable to cope with pressure and be happy to work out of hours in very busy periodsbe a committed and approachable individual with a personable and professional attitudetake pleasure in the routine as well as the more challenging tasksexperience of tribal peoples, whilst desirable, is not essential.
