This assures that the rams never obstruct the boreor interfere with pipe in the hole. Hydraulic pressure draws the bonnets tightlyagainst the preventer body and the bonnet studs are hydraulically tensioned to holdthe bonnets closed. Ram opening pressure is also used to automatically unlock theST-locks.Ram closing pressure closes the rams. When the bonnet nuts are released, closingpressure opens the bonnets. When the bonnet has moved to the fully extended position,a ram removal tray is inserted and ram opening pressure brings the rams intothe clear for removal. ST-locks are locked by applying pressure to the ST-lock lockport. This pressure wedges a piston-like assembly into position to ensure that therams are locked in the closed position.
