Kyle Kippenbrock has made the right choice that changed his life - after completing high school in the
States, he decided to study Mechanical Engineering at the Carl Benz School of Engineering in Germany.
Fortunately he received a scholarship from MAG and he gave his very best to perform well in his studies.
This scholarship support meant that Kyle was constantly in touch with MAG, enabling him to complete his
advanced industrial internship at MAG Industrial Automation and write his “Diplom” thesis in the Maintenance
Technologies division of MAG. During his time spent at MAG, Kyle contributed to the improvement
of workflow and quantitative evaluation by developing a workflow management system for the logistics
department and a method for the quantitative evaluation of the benefits of product-supporting services
such as ramp-up packages, tele-service or on-site maintenance personnel for the customer.
After successfully completing his studies at the Carl Benz School of Engineering, Kyle was accepted to
a Ph.D. program and is now a Ph.D. candidate in Mechanical Engineering at the Institute of Production
Science at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He is currently involved in the research of innovative
methods for the quality management of micromanufacturing and will probably complete his Ph.D. by the
end of 2012.

The positive learning experiences at the Carl Benz School of Engineering must have encouraged Kevin to go
for his Masters by joining the HECTOR School of Engineering and Management, the technology business
school of the International Department (also part of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology).
Currently enrolled in the M.Sc. program in Energy Engineering and Management, Kevin has benefitted
from the technical modules that teach the fundamentals and technical implications regarding the possibilities
of electricity production based on sustainable energy. By looking at different business models and its
finances during the management modules, Kevin gained fundamental management and entrepreneurial
skills as well as an insight to project management. There were also opportunities where Kevin learned how
to propose business ideas to potential investors. This knowledge and experience, as far as Kevin describes
it, will be helpful in case he ever sets up his own business venture in Brunei.
At the moment, Kevin is doing an internship at Lufthansatechnik and is part of the engine services department
dealing with quality management, non-destructive testing, surface technology, heat treatment,
optical and scanning electron microscopy, maintenance and chemical composition analysis.
