Mosa Facades supply tiles in pure ceramic for
ventilated and non-ventilated applications.
Mosa brings innovative tile concepts to the
market as a leading manufacturer of ceramic
tiles in the international architectural sector. We
invest in the development of façade applications
using ceramic tiles, perfectly suited to today’s
demands for façades of a high aesthetic,
functional and technical quality.
The unglazed tiles have a unique natural matt
finish, making the appearance of each tile slightly
different from the next offering the possibility of
creating an intriguing architectural façade by
varying the size and pattern of the tiles.
Large-format tiles, 60 x 60, 75 x 75, 45/90 x 90
and 20*/30/40/60 x 120 cm are particularly
suited for use in mechanically anchored
ventilated façade systems.
Smaller tiles may be used where they are applied
using adhesive, particularly in residential commercial
and industrial renovations. Mosa offers
extensive freedom of design in terms of colour
and surface structure using standard tiles from
our collections or with custom tiles created to
bring your own ideas to life.
Mosa ceramic tiles are manufactured from
homogenous materials and are completely
colour-fast. The tiles are extremely tough, graffiti
resistant, water resistant, non flammable, and
low-maintenance. Façades using Mosa tiles have
a low reflectivity and are UV resistant and frost
proof. Additionally, Mosa tiles are sustainable
and made of natural materials. For this reason,
amongst others, Mosa is the first, and so far only
tile manufacturer in the world to receive the
EPEA/MBDC Cradle to Cradle® Silver certificate.
Mosa Facades produce tiles for the two major
principles of façade construction, ventilated and
non-ventilated. Ventilated façades have a
ventilated air cavity between the substructure
and the façade. Non-ventilated façades are fixed
directly onto the substructure. Mosa tiles are
suitable for use with all conventional systems.
Façades using Mosa ceramic tiles are lightweight
and can be quickly erected. A fairly unique

Ventilated façades

Ventilated façade systems are ideal construction
types for Mosa’s large format tiles such as 60 x
60, 75 x 75, 45/90 x 90 and 20*/30/40/60 x 120
cm, and offer a vast array of design choices.

Mosa Facades works in close partnership with
skilled façade builders and leading tile anchoring
system manufacturers. In cooperation with Mosa
Facades, its partners provide the engineering,
technology, and installation, ensuring that all
expertise is on hand from start to finish and
giving you the benefit of a single point of
contact for each project. Where ventilated
façades are preferred, the Mosa tiles are
mechanically anchored to a profile system or
sandwich panels, creating a ventilated cavity
between the façade and the substructure. This
creates an insulating layer which protects
against internal external temperature
differences and allowing rain and condensation
to escape. Therefore the formation of a thermal
bridge is minimised, and the façade insulation
dries quickly and maintains its r-value and
insulation from external noise. Ceramic ventilated
tiles have an extremely long lifespan, the costs
of cleaning and maintenance are low. Ventilated
Mosa facades can be used for new build and
renovation projects in commercial, industrial and
increasingly, the residential building sectors.

Secret-fix mechanical tile anchoring
The secret-fix tile anchoring system is the
secret behind the construction of stunningly
beautiful tiled façades. It can be used to anchor
combinations of different tile sizes with no
visible mounting whatsoever. The open joint
creates an attractive interplay of lines unbroken
by hooks or clamps. The tiles are mounted on
horizontal and vertical aluminium profiles. A Keil
or Fischer undercut drill is used to drill holes into
the back of the tile, and these holes are then
used to mount tile anchors using steel plugs.
Mosa is ETA approved in combination with the
Keil system (ETA 09/0348), and the ETA approval
for the Fischer system is currently in its final
stages.

Through-fix mechanical tile anchoring
Mosa tiles may be easily fixed to a vertical
aluminium profile on a frame using a double
clamp system. The clamps are visible and are
integrated into the design of the façade spraycoated
in the desired RAL colour.

Non-ventilated façades
Where non-ventilated façades are preferred,
Mosa tiles can be used to produce spectacular
building exteriors even on a limited surface area.
Tile patterns can be combined beautifully with
other building surfaces such as stucco or brickwork.
Mosa tiles for non-ventilating façades
have adhesive applied to the total area of the
back of the tile and fixed to the special insulation
material. This is mechanically anchored directly
to the substructure with no air cavity in between
them and finally sealed. This method is ideally
suited for use with both new construction and
renovation of domestic and non domestic
buildings. The attractive, impact and graffiti
resistant Mosa tiles are perfect for covering
retrofitted insulation. In addition to offering
many construction-technical advantages,
external insulation makes renovations has less
nuisance value for residents. External insulation
will always be installed and prepared for tiling
by certified companies, and the tiling and
finishing can be carried out by qualified and
Mosa recommended fixers. It is critically
important to give sufficient thought to the
finishing of the joins, the tile pattern and the tile
size. As the façade is not ventilated, the joins
must permit water vapour to escape from the
inside. This makes specific demands regarding
the total surface area of the joins, the number of
dilation joins, the light reflection values and
dimensions of the tiles. Mosa Facades will assist

reduce the EPC (energy performance coefficient)
of the building and maximising the R-value of
the insulation.

Façade renovation as alternative for new construction
Renovating existing residences in the Netherlands
will become increasingly important in the coming
years, in part because of stricter regulations
regarding residential insulation and the government’s
goals in the area of more sustainable
housing. Additionally, the commercial and
industrial building sector is more often looking
towards renovation as an alternative to new
build, giving great importance to aesthetics as
well as technical quality. It is, of course, the
façade that determines the first impression of a
building.
Whether for a single-family home or an industrial
property, the façade is an important visual
element. The application of ventilated and nonventilated
tiles in pure ceramic is a particularly
suitable method of renovating building exteriors.
This reduces the building’s EPC (energy
performance coefficient) and increases its
R-value. In this way, ceramic tiles help maintain a
pleasant interior climate. Mosa tiles are
extremely well-suited to application on façades.

Naturally Mosa tiles are sustainable, produced

reason for the full renovation of a non-ventilated
façade in Voorburg, pictured here, in 2009. The
renovation improved the functionality and
aesthetics of this apartment building so much
that the project was awarded the National
Renovation Award’s sustainability prize for that
year.

Cradle to Cradle® Silver certificate
Koninklijke Mosa in Maastricht is the first tile
manufacturer in the world to be Cradle to Cradle
Silver-certified. Mosa has selected the raw
materials used in its tiles to offer the potential
for unlimited recycling and for their environ mentally
friendly characteristics.
The achievement of this certification was the
result of years of intensive research and
development into the new working method. In
the process, Mosa carefully reviewed all raw
materials, suppliers, production processes and
products in consultation with the EPEA, the
knowledge institution headed by Prof. Michael
Braungart, founder of the Cradle to Cradle
movement.
Non sustainable raw materials were replaced,
and the sustainability of the locations from
which they are extracted was ascertained.
Wherever possible, Mosa adapted its production
processes to create attractive, quality tiles with a
high recycled content. The result of this intensive
programme is that, with very few exceptions all
Mosa tiles have been awarded the qualification:
“intended for the technical Cradle to Cradle
cycle, but safe for the biological cycle”. In the
technical Cradle to Cradle cycle, the materials
used are so pure that they are suitable for
multiple recycling and are not hazardous to the
environment.
