An Amazing Ride
Carolyne S. Kalson, Esq., President
Being your President this year has been an interesting and challenging experience.
This fall I had another amazing opportunity. On September
18 th I attended a luncheon at The Governor’s Mansion, Drumthwacket,
an historical landmark, along with other executive directors and executive
Board Members of Chambers of Commerce from throughout the entire state.
Governor Christie was running late from a Town Hall Meeting up north. During
that time, the Chamber leaders did what we do best, Network! It was insightful
and encouraging to learn that other Chambers were experiencing similar challenges
as is our Brick chamber. Many ideas were exchanged for programs, and time
of day for network meetings. It seemed to be consensus to have programs at breakfast, lunch and after
work hours so that we reach most every business. One idea I’d like to implement is a “flash mob sale.”
When the Governor arrived and addressed the crowd, it was evident that he understands the needs of small business
and wants to help. He addressed UEZ Zone Issues, Amazon.com and “user fees” that some municipalities
are using to exceed the 2% cap. The Business Action center was also discussed. If you have an issue you can
call 1-866-534-7789, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and have a state representative assigned
to address your issue or concern and follow it through. The website is www.state.nj.us/njbusiness/bac/index.
The Governor even gave out Lt. Governor’s cell phone number so that a question from the floor could be answered.
Finally, the Governor advised that you can contact the Division of Community Affairs to rate your town,
which information would be considered in approving state aid. I have pictures so if you want to see them let me
know. It has been a wonderful year and it is my pleasure to serve you.
Tech Tip
Do You Need a Mobile Website For Your Business?
As more and more people turn to their smartphones to view websites, it’s important for
businesses to keep up with their customers and offer them easy to navigate mobile versions
of their websites. When customers visit a website through their phone, a website that has
been built with a mobile version will allow easier browsing, clicking, and access to pages,
content, and photos, while still maintaining the website’s look and feel and offering all of
the website’s normal content.
As a significant amount of website traffic comes from current and potential customers
finding the business through a search on their phone, having a user friendly mobile site will boost you ahead
of the competition and make the user’s experience simpler.
