PERTAMINA INNITIATIVES TO REDUCE GHG EMISSION
Develop clean energy for transportation fuels :
Produce the gasoline with higher octane number & lower
carbon emission (Pertamax, Pertamax plus etc.)
Urge the use of natural gas as a fuel for power
generation, industrial and public transportation sectors.
 Produce eco-friendly products
Accelerates the development of Geothermal Power Generation
Projects.
Kerosene conversion program with LPG for household & others
public requirements
Energy Management : Use less energy or use lower carbon
emission fuel
Green House Gas management (using CCS, CDM, etc).
Reducing lead content to develop clean energy
UL Premium-88, UL Premix-92 (later changed as Pertamax-91), UL Super TT-
98 (later changed as Pertamax Plus-95) are supplied from Balongan Refinery
since 2001
In Aug 2005, a 52 MBSD Balongan Blue Sky Project was commissioned, and
imported HOMC volume is significantly reduced. This project was proposed
to the Government in February 1996.
Gradually from 2004 till June 2006, the TEL content in Premium-88 was
reduced from 1.8 to 0.3 cc/USG.
Finally, in July-2006, PERTAMINA stopped producing Leaded Gasoline.
Producing Pertadex for Automotive Diesel
Introducing more environmental friendly and higher quality ADO, Pertamina
launched Pertadex with 53 Cetane Number and 300 ppm Sulfur since Aug-
2005 for 6 Filling stations in Jakarta.
AWARD FROM UNEP AND ADB
Better Air Quality from Committee for the Elimination of Lead
Gasoline, United nation Environment Program (UNEP) and Asian
Development Bank (ADB) has been given to Pertamina as a form
or appreciation in the effort to realize Gasoline without Led
Program
Biofuel Sales & Marketing
Since November 2006, Pertamina has been marketing :
• Biodiesel fuel at all gas stations in Jakarta, Bekasi, Tangerang, Banten,
Bogor, Bandung and Surabaya.
• Biopertamax E5 in Jakarta and subsequently developed into several
cities
BBG & VIGAS
• Since 1987 Pertamina has also
supplied gas fuel by using CNG
(Compressed Natural Gas), under the
brand of BBG
• Fuel Gas (BBG) is natural gas that has
been purified and safe, clean, reliable, cheap
• 24 SPBBG has operated to distribute BBG with total
sales 29.712 KLSP (2010)
• In 2008, Pertamina launched new
alternative fuel that is a liquid
called Vigas. This fuel is a further
development of fuel Compressed
Natural Gas (CNG)
• Vigas is a 98-octane fuel that its clean exceeding
Other Eco-friendly Products
 Hidrocarbon Aerosol Propelant (HAP) is
environmentally friendly propellant, with a basis
from pure hydrocarbon that serves as the driving
force from aerosol product in the packaging so
that products can be release in the form of fog.
 SOLPHY-2 is environmentally friendly hydrocarbon
solvents, non-ozone-depleting replacement for
solvent containing ozone depleting material, used
Used as metal cleaning solvent at the Garuda
Maintenance Facility and can be used as a solvent
from paint, ink dyes, insecticides and pesticides.
In 2008, Pertamina has received Ozone Award from
Ministry of Environment for this three products

Emission Reduction – Geothermal Sector
Pertamina is actively developing geothermal energy as a source of clean energy &
environmentally friendly.
Development of geothermal energy has managed to reduce annual greenhouse gas
emissions 171,000 to 628,000 tons of CO2e per year.
In 2010 PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy has successfully developed GHG emissions
reduction program through CDM projects :
1. Package I (Ulubelu Units 3 and 4 Lampung) & Package
3 (Lumut Balai units 1 and 2 - South Sumatra) in
cooperation with the South Pole Carbon Asset
Limited, with an estimated emission reduction each
package of 644.359 tons of CO2e per year
2. Package 4 (Lahendong Units 5 and 6 - North Sulawesi)
in cooperation with PT. Agrinergy Indonesia with an
estimated reduction in emissions by 163.987 tons
CO2e per year
