Setting the Standard in Plasma Proteomics
Minimize Preanalytical Variability
with BD P100 Blood Collection Kit
Human plasma contains a wide variety of proteins
that hold potential as biomarkers for proteomics-based
diagnostic and prognostic assays. * These proteins are
subject to proteolytic degradation and modification
during and after blood collection. The use of protease
inhibitors – mixed immediately with blood – minimizes
preanalytical variability associated with plasma sample
preparation and handling.
BD P100 v1.1 Blood Collection Kit enables greater
recovery and preservation of plasma
proteins by immediately mixing with
proprietary novel on-board
stabilizers, specifically formulated
for human plasma.
Preserve Valuable Plasma Proteins
† Patented
* BD P100 is For Research Use Only – Not For Use in Diagnostics Procedures
Highlights:
• On-board stabilizers provide point-of-collection
protection of plasma proteins
• Enhances long-term preservation by stabilizing
analytes during blood collection
• Innovative mechanical separator † minimizes
cellular contamination
• Eliminates pre-mixing and transfer tubes
• Sterile and ready to use
Figure 1. Preservation of plasma proteins with BD P100
v1.1 Blood Collection Kit. Blood was drawn directly from
eight subjects into P100 and EDTA evacuated tubes. Plasma
was processed within 10 minutes of blood collection by
centrifugation at 2,500 x g for 15 minutes at room temperature.
After blood collection, plasma was transferred into microtubes
and prepared for mass spectrometry analysis or stored at –80ºC
for future analysis. Peptides were isolated from the plasma
samples and analyzed by MALDI-TOF MS. The mass spectra
were collected in the mass range from 800 to 3200 m/z. Areas
within the red rectangles demonstrate enhanced peptide
stabilization in the P100 samples versus EDTA plasma samples.
A greater degree of proteolytic degradation is also more
apparent in the EDTA plasma samples, even though samples
were processed immediately upon blood collection (“Time 0”),
as shown in the yellow rectangle areas.
Figure 2. Enhanced stability of peptides observed in
plasma samples collected with BD P100 v1.1 Blood
Collection Kit. Regions with red arrows on this
MALDI-TOF MS zoom plot (m/z 1700-2050) of two
subjects demonstrates the ability of P100 v1.1 to
stabilize plasma peptides more effectively in the
presence of protease inhibitors. These peaks are absent
in the same regions on the EDTA zoom plots for both
subjects. The immediate mixing of blood with the onboard
protease inhibitors in BD P100 tubes enhances
the recovery of plasma proteins for proteomics studies.
