The broadcast features senior Lee Small and junior Michael Polak. The pregame show starts 30 minutes before kickoff. All six home games will also be broadcast by VIC (106.5 FM). Both stations’ coverage is available over the Internet, and can be accessed at www.wicb.org/?page=listen and www.vicradio.org/. WICB also carries Sportstalk, a 60-minute program that airs Sundays at 6 p.m. Included in the call-in format of the show are game highlights, interviews and comprehensive coverage of Ithaca’s athletic program. ON TELEVISION All five Bomber home games will be televised by ICTV on Time Warner Cable’s channel 16. Bombers Football is cablecast live and re-shown on a tape-delayed basis at 7 p.m. the day of the game. It is produced by seniors Ryan Boyce and Allison Gainza. For the fourth year in a row, every Bomber home game will be streamed online. Fans can watch for free (a high-speed connection is required; dial-up connections will not work) through a link provided on the Ithaca website at www.bombers.ithaca.edu/schedules.asp?path=football. In addition, Time Warner Cable regularly broadcasts the Cortaca Jug game live in the Cortland, Ithaca and Syracuse markets as well as other selected areas throughout the state. Every Sunday at 9 p.m. ICTV viewers can watch The Gridiron Report, a live game-review program featuring coach Mike Welch. The Gridiron Report, which is produced by senior Becky Goodling, can be seen courtesy of cable companies throughout New York. ON TEAMLINE Bomber fans can hear the live play-by-play coverage of Ithaca football even when they can’t make it to the game. Just call TEAMLINE at 800-846-4700 and enter Ithaca’s four-digit access code (3945). Charge the call on your Visa or Mastercard credit card and listen to the action, broadcast live by WICB-FM, over the phone. Fans can listen as long as they like and pay only for the time they listen. Section Jim Butterfield head Stadium ITHACA COLLEGE On September 19, 1992, before a crowd of 4,417 fans, which included former players and then- NCAA executive director Dick Schultz, South Hill Field was renamed Jim Butterfield Stadium. The move by the Ithaca College Board of Trustees placed the name most associated with the school’s football program on the facility. Butterfield joined Grambling’s Eddie Robinson and Roy Kidd of Eastern Kentucky as college football’s only active coaches to have their home field named for them. Recognized as one of the top natural-grass facilities in Division III football, Butterfield Stadium has seating capacity for approximately 5,000 spectators, although crowds of more than 10,000 fans have attended games there—including a facility-record 12,620 for the 2001 Cortland game. On September 27, 1958, Ithaca hosted East Stroudsburg in the first regular-season game on South Hill Field. Trailing 6-0 at halftime, Ithaca rallied behind an Al Cain five-yard touchdown run and a scoring pass from Bob Ryan to future Ithaca College Athletic Hall of Fame member Dick Carmean. The Bombers’ 14-6 win snapped a streak of eight consecutive losses to the Warriors. Ithaca has posted undefeated home records 15 times since 1958. Since the NCAA adopted a three- division format in 1973, Ithaca has lost just 29 games at home, with 11 of those coming at the hands of Division II opponents. Ithaca is 13-5 in NCAA playoff games at the facility and 2-1 in ECAC postseason competition. The Bombers have won over 80 percent of their Butterfield Stadium/South Hill Field games. In 1998 the Bombers celebrated their 200th game at South Hill Field/Butterfield Stadium by beating St. Lawrence, 60-0. During coach Jim Butterfield’s 27-season career, the team’s home record was 117-25-1, a winning percentage of .822. A number of improvements have been made since the facility was first used in 1958, including the latest renovation—a new scoreboard and message board installed in 2004. The press box, which was constructed in 1960, was renovated in 1985 and again in 1998. New bleachers were added in 1978, as was the track that surrounds the football field. The track, resurfaced most recently in 1997, has played host to championships in the Independent College Athletic Conference, the Empire Athletic Association, the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association and the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
