8 EXTENDED CALL8.1 Individual callAn individual digital selective call consists of: the address i.e.the MID number of the party to call, a category, a firstmessage (two telecommands), a second message e.g. aproposed work channel or the ship’s position and informationthat tells if acknowledgment of the call is requested.In the extended individual call, all of the above informationhas to be entered by the user. If you do not need to transmita specific category or telecommand, you might as well usethe simple individual call.To select the call menu, press CALL. You are now in thesimple call menu.Press CALLTo start entering the information in the extended call, pressEDIT.Press EDITThe following menu is used to select the type of call. PressNEXT to make a ‘Selective’ call.Press NEXTThis menu is used to select the kind of address in the call.Press NEXT to select ‘Individual’.Press NEXTThe following menu is used to enter the address of the partyto call. The three letter text after ‘Call’ should be flashing. Ifthe text does not flash, press < a number of times, until itdoes.Useto delete old information.8.1.1 The call menu8.1.1.1 Entering a MID numberIf the flashing text reads ‘stn’, use or to change the flashingtext to ‘MID’. When the text ‘MID’ is flashing, the nine digit MIDnumber of the ship to be called, can be entered using thenumerical keyboard. < can be used to delete erroneouslyentered data.
