POST-GRADUATE COURSE IN MEDICAL MYCOLOGY 2006-2007School for Continuing Medical Education, The Sackler Faculty of Medicine,Tel-Aviv University, ISRAELFor your interest we are pleased to inform you that during the academic year2006-2007 (starting October 2006) we are running a comprehensive postgraduatecourse in Medical Mycology.The objective of the course is to train laboratory personnel with state-of-the-artknowledge in Medical Mycology. The course is aimed at University graduates(B.Sc., M.Sc, Ph.D. M.D), most of whom are employed in Clinical MicrobiologyLaboratories. It consists of 28 participants.Beside myself as course director and teaching-faculty member, the teachingfaculty includes mycologists and physicians.The curriculum covers:• an introductory part focusing on the taxonomy, morphology, physiology,reproduction and classification of fungi.• virulence traits, pathogenesis, host –pathogen interactions and hostresponse.• the superficial mycoses, subcutaneous mycoses, yeast infections,opportunistic mold infections, the dimorphic fungi.• mycotoxins, fungal allergies.• Antimycotics.• clinical aspects of the various mycoses, as well as specific clinical entities,such as eye or wound associated infections, and therapy of mycoses arecovered by infectious diseases specialists.The course takes place once a week (30 weeks – academic year) and includesboth lectures and laboratory sessions.This is also the opportunity to acknowledge the assistance of colleagues fromout-of-the country (e.g. Institut Pasteur) in obtaining necessary material, such assome fungal cultures, that is greatly appreciated.With kind regards,Prof. Esther Segal
