Objective<br />
The objective of the 4th "Energy Management & Wire Harness Systems" conference is to highlight the<br />
increased global interaction the automotive industry is faced with in regards to electrical energy management.<br />
The contributions come from established car manufacturers <strong>and</strong> suppliers as well as colleagues<br />
from renowned scientific institutions.<br />
Content<br />
Energy Management is one of the most intensely discussed topics of the current era. The main drivers<br />
are (a) limited fossil fuel resources, (b) urbanization <strong>and</strong> (c) legislation. The amount of accessible oil has<br />
been steadily reduced since the 1960s. With 30 billion barrels of oil produced annually, production has<br />
most likely reached its peak, but the dem<strong>and</strong> is continuously growing, which leads to higher oil prices.<br />
Based on the ongoing trend to relocate from rural areas into urban regions, many cities - <strong>and</strong> especially<br />
mega-cities - are facing infrastructural problems, which will fundamentally influence our mobility. The<br />
mobility in urban centers will have to change due to both emissions <strong>and</strong> fuel <strong>consumption</strong>. Legislation is<br />
also moving ahead <strong>and</strong> challenging targets have been or will be defined worldwide to reduce CO2 emissions.<br />
In the EU the 2020 target is equivalent to approx. 4 liters per 100 kilometers averaged over the<br />
OEM fleet.<br />
