Foreward 

In September 1967, my father Carmine D’Onofrio opened the family shoe import business 

in earnest with the signature location on Vancouver’s Commercial Drive, the focal point of 

the city’s Italian community. With an unwavering dedication to quality, value and service, 

Kalena’s Shoes thrived. Over the years, many in the Italian community voiced their opinion 

that with the containers of shoes already coming over from Italy, perhaps the family business 

should expand to include wines from the homeland. After all, the selection of Italian 

wines in the market at the time did leave room for improvement. In 1991, Stile Wines 

was born. 

The name ‘Stile’ ―pronounced ‘Stee-lay’ in Italian‖, corresponding to its English counterpart 

‘style’, was chosen not only to represent the stylish wines that became part of the portfolio, 

but also to reflect the culture of incorporating wine stylishly as part of enjoying life to the 

fullest. 

Over time, the list of highly regarded Italian producers working with Stile grew, to the extent 

that Stile Wines became synonymous with Italian wine. To this day, we are proud to 

say that we offer one of the very finest portfolios of Italian wine in Canada. 

Along the way, we have strived to add products from reputable producers from all over the 

world, always keeping in mind our goal of offering the absolute best possible quality and 

value. While we will undoubtedly always be viewed as an Italian specialist, we can now lay 

claim to being a truly diversified, international importer. 

My father passed away in 2005, but his spirit remains very much alive in all that we do. 

We are happy to know that the fine products that we bring to this special part of the world 

have brought joy and a real appreciation for the finer things in life to so many.

ANDREW PEACE 

Founded in 1975, Bodega y Cavas de Weinert is located in Lujan de Cuyo, 

Argentina´s cradle for top quality wines. The original 1890 Spanish colonial building, 

reminiscent of an old winery owned by the family Otero until 1920, catches the eye by 

its beauty, inviting those who pass by to know what it guards inside. 

Don Bernardo C. Weinert, founder and owner, could be defined as an entrepreneur. 

Born in a small German colony in Southern Brazil, he built his name around 

international transport in South America. Fascinated by the world of wine, he decided 

to found his own winery in Argentina with one unconditional philosophy: producing 

high quality wines. 

VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA 

The business began as a vineyard in 1980, then became a full fledged winery in 

1995. The first year grape intake of 3,000 tonnes has grown steadily each year to 

the 16,250 tonnes crushed in 2003, ranking it 17th in Australia. The winery is 14th 

largest based on export sales volume. 

Designed and constructed by Andrew Peace, the winery has an emphasis on an even 

flow of must and juice, with minimal oxygen contact to ensure maximum quality and 

fruit flavour retention. Despite its size, Andrew Peace Wines remains a family operation, 

with great care and attention paid to all facets of wine production. The results 

are consistent, robust wines with all of the character and flavour that wine lovers 

around the world have come to expect from vineyards Down Under. The new 1 litre 

Tetra Pak wines are a particularly exciting venture.

TWO HANDS 

BAROSSA VALLEY, AUSTRALIA 

Two Hands is one of Australia’s most decorated wineries, making its most sought after 

wines. The ‘two hands’ are Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz, who formed the company 

in 1999 with the clear objective of making the best possible Shiraz wines from 

prized Shiraz producing regions within Australia. 

Michael Twelftree’s background included years of exporting Australian wine to USA and 

Asia, while Richard Mintz was a former CEO of one of Australia’s leading cooperages in 

the Barossa Valley. The two old friends set out in 2000 with just 17 tonnes of fruit 

from the McLaren Vale and Padthaway wine regions. From the start, the wines were 

well received with a healthy stream of reviews, culminating with Robert Parker’s 2::4 

declaration of Two Hands as ‘the finest negociant operation south of the equator’. 

Two Hands concentrates its efforts on sourcing the best fruit from the best Shiraz vineyards

PIKES 

CLARE VALLEY, AUSTRALIA 

Englishman Henry Pike immigrated to South Australia in 1878, and settled 

in the small town of Oakbank in the Adelaide Hills. In 1886, he established 

the family brewing business called H. Pike & Co. This name became well 

known throughout South Australia for its quality beer, soft drink and tonic 

ale, and the company used the English Pike fish on the label, which remains 

to this day—a symbol of Pikes’ long heritage. 

The sale of the company did not end the family tradition. Henry Pike’s 

great grandson Edgar was well established in the wine industry, and his 

sons Andrew and Neil both followed in their father’s footsteps, establishing 

Pikes in 1984 in the beautiful Clare Valley. The winery and vineyards are 

situated in the historic and picturesque Polish Hill River sub region on the 

eastern side of the valley. The climate in this area is cooler and the soils 

are quite unique to the rest of the region, attributes that impart distinctive 

flavours and aromas to the wines. 

Riesling has become the flagship for which Pikes have become best known. 

Other varieties produced include Semillon, Viognier, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet 

Sauvignon and Shiraz. They have consistently met their goals of producing 

absolute top quality varietal wines—worthy of the longstanding distinctive 

fish logo that is still found on all Pikes wines.

The first vines at Chateau Peach-Latt, planted by the monks from the Lagrasse 

Abbey that was founded by Charlemagne, can be traced back to 784 A.D. Today, 

Chateau Pech-Latt is a 325 hectare estate, of which 100 acres are 

planted with vines. 

The winery is proud to rank among the pioneers in organic farming, a choice 

which stems from their aim to preserve a well balanced and sound 

environment. The vineyard is sparsely fertilized, and if so, only with organic 

products. Pesticides, weed killers and other synthetic fertilizers are banned.

Historically, the Corbières region has always been connected with winegrowers 

and the making of wine. As of the 12th century, the Abbey of Fontfroide was 

taken over by the monks of the Cistercian Order, highly skilled winegrowers who 

undertook to restore the art of the vine in the Corbieres once started by the 

Phoenicians and furthered by the Romans. 

So began the history of the domaine known as Caraguilhes. The famous chateau 

that one sees today was constructed in the early 17th century. The vines 

still grow in an ideal location known for its exceptional soil quality, with s mixture 

of clay and limestone. In 1935, the winery’s new owner became the only grower 

to refuse to use insecticides and weed killers or chemical fertilizers—well ahead 

of his time. Inspired by the same precision and philosophy, the same love of the

The history of this firm is closely connected to the grandfather-figure Gaetano Pichierri, 

who farmed the fruitful vineyards of Primitivo. He refined his knowledge of winemaking 

in the wine growers' cooperatives of Sava, made famous by its oenologists Don Amerigo 

Mancini and Guido Calò. Right after the war, Gaetano guided the Pichierri family to 

start their own production of selected wines, leaving to his sons Cosimo, Vittorio, 

Roberto and Aldo the duty to continue the family’s great tradition. Constant quality improvement 

of Primitivo wine in dry and natural sweet types is the password for Pichierri 

Winery, permitting them to achieve high quality.

LIBRANDI 

CALABRIA, ITALY 

The Librandi Winery is headquartered in Ciro Marina, a small Calabrian town on the 

Ionian coast, south of the Gulf of Taranto. The area is naturally suited to vine growing, 

boasting excellent soil conditions and a favourable geographic position close to the sea 

with the Sila Mountains in behind, guaranteeing premium contrast between day and 

night temperatures. 

Librandi has grown grapes for four centuries, and began bottling in the 1950s. Management 

is firmly in family hands, with some technical collaboration with Donato Lanati, 

Professor of Oenology at the universities of Torino and Florence. 

Librandi is very well known and highly regarded for the production of exemplary wines 

from native grape varietals, especially the most ancient of Calabrian vines, Gaglioppo, 

known as ‘The Black Prince’, which grows as an elongated cluster of blue-black grapes 

with bright reddish reflections. It is known for producing wines of lush fruit character, 

long body, and ripe, rich finish.

FEUDI DI SAN GREGORIO

Feudi di San Gregorio, a symbol of today’s rebirth of fine wine from the south of Italy, 

is dedicated to the rediscovery of the unique flavours of the Mediterranean. The 

crusade began in the mid-8:’s with the idea of rewriting the history of winemaking in 

the Irpinia region. The central concept was to invest in a real future for the great 

wines of the South by upholding local traditions and developing their latent potential. 

In other words, to take a fresh look at Campania and her native grape varieties— 

Aglianico, Fiano, Greco and Falanghina. Over the last ten years, Feudi di San 

Gregorio has come to represent the growing reputation of the wines of Irpinia. 

Ancient ties have been reinforced by a new interpretation of the potential of the 

south of Italy. The will and resources of two local families, united by a single passion, 

has breathed new life into this ancient land. These are modern wines with an 

ancient soul. They are authentic, while their traditional values are maintained

Azienda Agricola Di Majo Norante is located to the north of the Gargano in 

Molise on the estate of the Marquees Norante of Santa Cristina. Since the

MASCARELLO 

Damilano is one of the historical Barolo producing farms, founded over a century 

ago by Guiseppe Borgogno, The tradition was kept up by his son-in-law Giacomo 

Damilano and with his children, until it was passed on to his four grandchildren, 

who very attentively manage their forefathers’ land today. The wines 

are renowned for their upright style and the estate is widely appreciated due to

Argiolas has firmly established itself as one of the very top producers from Sardinia, 

the newest critics’ darling region of Italy. Sardinia has followed in the footsteps of

TENUTA SAN LEONARDO 

The history of Tenuta San Leonardo dates back at least 1500 years, with the return 

of prisoners from Trentino, who erected a chapel in honor of the patron 

saint of prisoners, Saint Leonard. In the 12th century, the Fratres Cruciferi, an 

order with adherents all over Europe and which remained at San Leonardo until 

1656, expanded grape growing and adopted a modern approach to viticulture at 

the monastery. Today, the ancient monastery hospice, which once gave shelter 

to the destitute, is now the cellar where the wines mature in barrels. 

The estate has witnessed many historical events, including acting as headquarters 

in both world wars; first, of the high command of the Italian 29th army corps 

in WWI (Austria made a formal request for an armistice to be held on the 

grounds), and in the Second World War, of the counterespionage section of the 

German high command on the Italian front. 

Present owners the Guerrieri Gonzaga family have taken advantage of the specific 

terroir to create Bordeaux-inspired blended wines, under the guidance of 

master winemaker Carlo Ferrini and consultant winemaker Giacomo Tachis, who 

is considered to be a genuine maestro of Italian winemaking through his creation 

of some of Tuscany’s most influential wines from the 197:s onwards. 

This talented pair ensures calculated ageing—at least six months in large format 

Slavonian oak, then 24 months in small French oak barrels—and masterful blending 

of each contributing varietal. This is followed by at least one year of bottle 

ageing. The results are consistently nothing short of spectacular.

Borgo Scopeto is an estate covering an area of 503 hectares (1243 acres), 

located in the Siennese commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, prevalently on 

clay soil, with arenaceous elements bonded with limestone. The wine cellar 

of Borgo Scopeto, renewed and enlarged over the last few years, is equipped 

with the most modern technology for vinification. The refining of the wines 

takes place in Slovenian oak barrels of 30/50 hectolitres and French oak 

barriques of 300 litres.

Fattoria Lavacchio is an established organic farm, producing wine and olive 

oil in the Chianti Rufina region of Italy. Approximately 80 per cent of the 

vineyards are composed of selected clones of Sangiovese. The other red 

berry vines include mainly Merlot, some Cabernet Sauvignon and in the very 

young vineyards, some Syrah. All of Fattoria Lavacchio’s vineyards are 

100% certified organic by the European Union and Ecocert. 

Grape picking is carried out by hand according to old country traditions, for 

the best product quality. The limited production imposed by biological cultivation

The Carpineta Fontalpino vineyard has been owned by the Cresti family since the 

1960s. The name comes from references of historical place—CARPINETA (an

the heart of Tuscany close to Siena, in a region that is rich in history, legends and

The Salteano complex consists of three estates, all located in an extensive 

area to the southeast of Siena. The Salteano estate and the complex’s 

headquarters occupy a panoramic position about five miles from Siena on 

the Via Cassia, an ancient Roman road. The other properties are Villino 

and Scrofiano. The winery owns 148 acres of vineyards and manages 

others under long term agreements. The Salteano estate already existed 

in the latter half of the 18th century, when it was expanded and developed

Distilleria Bottega was set up in 1977 by Aldo Bottega, a master distiller with over 30 

years of experience. The distillery began modestly, operating in the local grappa market. In 

1983, with the death of its founder, son Sandro took on the management of the company 

with the assistance of siblings Barbara and Stefano. In a few years, Distilleria Bottega left 

its anonymity, thanks to an innovative distillation system that makes grappa mellower and 

more delicate. In 1987, the Alexander brand joined Bottega; this new brand is intended for

All Alexander Grappa has its origin from very fresh and vinous marcs that are distilled in

In 1519, five ships led by Ferdinand de Magellan set out to circumnavigate the world 

and explore ‘the spice islands’. Three years later, only the ship Victoria returned to 

Spain, with 18 people and hundreds of cloves. Sadly, Magellan, who died in battle 

during the voyage, never saw the results of his spice discoveries. Those spices inspired 

the creation of gin as we know it, and it is to cloves in particular that Magellan

SANTA TERESA 

Antigua Distillery has long been the premium distiller of fine rums in The Leeward islands. 

As they move into the new century, they are committed to maintaining the high 

standards production and packaging that have been developed over recent decades. 

The Antigua Distillery Ltd produces high quality rums with the finest all natural ingredients. 

The company uses a skillful combination of traditional methods and modern technology 

necessary for the best rum production. They continue the tradition of using copper 

pipes for its five column continuous copper still that can produce 1.5 million litres a 

year around 90% alcohol by volume. Ageing is done in 220 litre American Oak casks 

that were previously used for ageing bourbon, covering a time frame of a minimum 2-3 

years allowing the "angels" to take their share. 

VENEZUELA 

Since its foundation in 1796, the history of Hacienda Santa Teresa has been interwoven 

with the history of Venezuela. The lands of Santa Teresa have witnessed 

the birth of José Rafael Revenga—one of the founding fathers of Venezuela 

independence, Simon Bolivar’s ratification of his historic 1818 proclamation 

abolishing slavery, and the 1821 defeat of Royalist Troops by General José 

Francisco Bermúdez. In 1996, to celebrate its 200th anniversary, the company

San Francisco’s famous Anchor Steam, the classic of American brewing tradition 

since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of 

brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavour all testify to its 

traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for its brewing process has 

evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. 

The ‘steam’ reference comes from the fact that the brewery started with no way to 

chill the boiling wort, so they pumped it to large open-top bins on the roof for it to be 

chilled by the cool air blowing in off the Pacific Ocean. Thus while brewing, the brewery 

had a distinct cloud of steam around the roof let off by the wort as it cooled.
